BAR or A-bolt. Which is better

Stainless Mossy Oak for the A-bolt is nice, but the Safari is equally nice. 30-06. Is one better or more accurate than the other?

You're typically going to get better accuracy and more punch from a bolt action. Some of the punch is taken by the rifle to cycle the next round in an automatic.

    I'd go for an A-bolt.

A bolt holds its value better than the BAR.....so that is another reason to go A bolt.

Get the one with the BOSS system (do they still make those?) and it will be the most accurate.

My BAR in .338 Winchester Magnum would shoot honest 1" groups at 100 yards with Hornaday 225 grain bullets and a butt load of H 4831.

The BAR is a good rifle; expensive but good. I killed every moose and caribou I shot with it. It was used above the arctic circle hunting for several seasons.

The A-bolt has less to go wrong at the wrong time. I would probably choose it over the BAR due to cost alone.

There is no loss in power from a gas operated rifle. The gas port uses a farts worth of gas to operate the system.

Get the BAR. Less recoil and will shot as well as you can shoot the gun. No loss of "punch" as stated above.

Thanks, everyone! They're both about the same price new (arouund $1,000). I sort of prefer a semi, but we'll see. Not getting it right now, but will sooner or later. First I have to convince my wife I need it. Wish me luck. [:D]

+1 on the BAR. I have both and I prefer the BAR. The ABolt is just as sweet of a gun, I just like the SemiAuto. You will be happy with either.
