Did Target Stores ban Salvation Army and others?

Overheard some folks talking about Target stores.

They were saying that Target will not allow The Salvation Army or Toys for Tots to solicit in front of their stores this Christnas season.

Also, is Target a foreign owned corp?

It was on our local news a month or so ago that Target would NOT allow the Salvation Army to solicit in front of their stores. Nothing said about Toys for Tots though.

This subject was brought up after a request for a donation for some group here before. They let the bell ringers stand there in Illinois anyway. They do not however give donations from individual stores because their corparate offices make major donations all year long and if memory serves right it was a donation for Toys for Tots in Chicago. As far as ownership it's the same company as marshall fields and they are Greatland companies in Texas owned by Daton Hudson.

Target's policy is not too allow solicitations on the local level. They do all their donations on the corporate level (as noted in the snopes article). Until recently, some stores had allowed Salvation Army bell ringers outside their facilities. Other organizations protested this saying this was favoritism. So, Target sent out a corporate letter advising local stores to cease this practice. This was covered in local news on the radio, television and in the newspaper in Colorado Springs.
