I embaressed my wife

Last night my wifes sister Rose and her boyfriend Bill came over. Every thing was fine until Rose did not refill Bills glass of Pepsi fast enough and started cussing at her. I kindly told him that we do not talk like that to women in this house.

Bill then told me that he was in Iraq and Afghanistan and nobody tells him what to do. I told him thanks for your service i was in for 10 years myself. But if you talk like that again you can leave or i will make you leave. If you act right you are more than welcome to stay. He got up and left.

My wife told me when we went to bed i embaressed her. I told her im sorry but i have never cursed or raised my voice at her. My dad has never raised my voice at my mom. If i ever raised my voice to a lady around my dad he would beat the wheels off me. LOL

Was i wrong or should i have kept my mouth shut. David

Your house, your rules. Many will say that here.

He did the right thing if he thought he couldn't abide by those rules...he left.

If Rose is smart, she'll dump him.

You were right. For one you didn't just sit there and allow the jerk to berate your sister in law. Second you informed him of the rules and left the decision on wether he stayed up to him. Probably better that he left. Your wife should be proud, not embarrassed.

Being in Iraq/afghanistan does not give a person a free ride to act like Bill did or to escape the consequences of his actions.

On another forum a guy (who happened to be a veteran) was complaining about the situation that his choices had left him in. I pointed out that his situation was due to the choices he had made. Another chimed in with something about "So it's the veteran's fault?" at which point I asked why did he think that being a veteran had anything to do with the situation. He then accused me of hating veterans. I called him out on it, asking why he thought I hate veterans (I never pointed out that I are one) but he never responded.

So he thinks that just because he was in Iraq, he has the right to do whatever he wants and disrespect anybody? Sounds like he didn't learn anything over there.

    You did the right thing.

So how's your wife going to act when Rose comes over to your house crying with a black eye because she and Bill an argument?

It sounds like you've never met Bill before. Generally I'm on my best behavior when meeting people for the first time, especially a GF's relatives. If the guy is willing to act like that around strangers, how's he going to act when (if) he gets to know you better?

Better off not finding out, IMHO.

Ask your wife if she would let him talk to her, her daughter or her mother that way.

    You were right on target.

No excuse for that no matter where he has been.

She should be equally "embaressed" by your spelling.[:D]

If I was a betting man,and I am I would bet he has already smacked Rose a time,or two! GOOD JOB dav1965! Keep a baseball bat in the corner in case he visits again. Try to get Rose out of denial about being abused. Time to send in the Captain.

Maybe you should've waited until dude pimp slapped Rose and then say to your wife "he really should've put more snap in to that". Some women (actually most folks) don't know how good some folks are.

All I know is it seems your misses would rather cover up than prevent what's in the mail. Maybe I'm wrong. So when Rose comes over all busted up tell her to handle it 'cos you're not getting involved since you might embaressed her again.

Personally, I think you f#@$ed up real bad, pal! That lazy b#$%@, Rose, needs to have her butt kicked. After all, what's a woman for, if not to do what a man says and take care of his needs.

Seriously, though, this guy did not just disrespect and mistreat Rose, but he came into your home, "took over" your home by treating Rose the way he did and disrespected both you and your wife in the process. He probably has already started physical abuse of Rose and I believe some intervention on her behalf should take place (but that's just my opinion). Personally, I would explain to my wife that Rose is in for some real problems if she stays with this donkey. A woman should not build a lifetime with an abusive man. Your sister in law needs counseling.

Rose and Bill have been dating 3 months. I do not know of any abuse but he knows what will happen if i find out. I have only met him 3 times. My wife and i both dont like him so we dont invite them over. They do invite themselves over own there own sometimes. He walked in my bedroom once to go to the other bathroom and saw my gun safes and asked what was in them i told him guns and he said but there is 3 i told him lots of guns. He wanted me to show him and i was like maybe next time i dont feel like opening them up now. I dont like strangers seeing them.

Haven't seen or heard anyone fault you here and you know I won't either.

You did right by Rose, your wife, yourself and Women in general.

When that obnoxious, insolent, disrespecting, sexist, sorry excuse for a man, got on up off his sorry * and got out to the other side of your family's door ... he did the "rightest" thing of his day.

Believe that if they have any sense (and I believe they both must have) both Rose and your wife will soon realize that you did right by all.

When some one is embarrassed when you do the right thing ... that is OK for you.
When some one is embarrassed when you do the wrong thing ... that ain't so OK for you!

Rid of him, all would be best off.

You were 100% right and also tried to be decent by thanking him for his service and sticking out the hand of comraderie by mentioning your own service. ( thanks to both of you) You gave him a way out of the situation and he was disrespectful to all, regardless of his service.

The guy is a *. Rose better come to her senses before he beats them out of her. Your wife should realize that she's got a good one and say thanks instead of guilting you for "embarassment" in front of Rose.

30 years ago while playing cards at my house a guy was cussing a lot. My son was about 9 at that time and in ths same room. I told him to leave or shut up. He became a preacher a few years later.

    My house my rules.
