Do you mean blue steel (and walnut) or that other stuff that's not as much fun to collect? I consider them all "alternative investments."

Depends on ones age and net worth.

A smart investor watches all the markets, and buys when it's down and sales when it's high...

When precious metals are low, I invest about 50%. And when it's high I sell it all and have no money invested in Precious Metals...

Right now the economy is booming. So precious metals are down, I'm waiting to see what's going to happen in the elections, I might start buying precious metals again. Or not...

AGE brother is the factor,,,I f you are in your 70's , safe funds are the only way to go. Yea, people will argue but that advise is sound.

    No answer to the question.

IMO, one needs to look at precious metals much the same way as cash. It is not and investment, rather an insurance policy and a means to store money. While the metals market has been interesting over the past couple of decades, the value will not, over time, grow exponentially as it will in the markets.

I keep enough to pay the bills and feed my family for a couple of years. Any more than that is, IMO, a lost opportunity.

Lots of ways to look at this, if the Democrats win a majority you may wish you had more. Uncle Sam can give a "Haircut" to any investments in the market or banks. It would be much more difficult to take Gold or Silver you had squirreled away.

Greek investors took a big hit in order to pay for their communist policies.

When the Dems succeed in shifting America further left money you saved for your retirement in 401K IRA etc is vulnerable for sure.

The 5-10% rules is defined differently depending on who you ask.
Some say 5-10% of your worth others say of you cash or savings.

If your total worth is 1 million and your home and 2 rental properties with cars and guns equal $900K having no cash and 100K in gold does not make sense

If you do not count real estate just investments than 10% is good but even if it is 10% of cash say $100K in savings that can work depending on how your personal situation dictates.

There is no one formula but that is IMO

Precious metals are starting to look mighty tempting

10%? That's alot of gold chains [:D]. A sad way to "OG" Over Gold. Been watching the Wayans Brothers movies. "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood". No wait that was "I'm Gonna * You Sucka"?
