How badly has the media harmed our country?

Not just this past election or George Bush before that. Remember Viet Nam and the false one sided reporting and then books. Peter Arnett, Jimmy Breslin, David Halberstam, and others all built careers by misstating what was really going on during the war. Their lies cost the American military the backing of the American people back home.
Well they are still at it. Look at the way they write about our law enforcement officers. Actually taking the sides of the very animals gunning our brave officers down. This needs to STOP!!
They live in a play world and know nothing about the real world they report on. They live lavish lifestyles meeting at dinner parties and giving each other awards all the while ignoring us, the real people. Or if we do enter their thoughts it's only to ridicule and belittle.
We need to come up with someway to take the power away from them. I don't have any suggestions now but if left unchecked they will only become stronger and do more damage.

It all comes down to integrity, and the main stream media has none.
If it is within your power to do the right thing and you choose not to, there goes your integrity.

I think they have damaged their position more than they have hurt the country.

I knew what Gonzo journalism was from the get go thanks to a Playboy interview with Hunter S. Thompson, the originator of the style back in the '70's.

While most people are aware of the William Randolph Hearst influence to embroil the country in the Spanish American War, fewer people are aware of the Edward R. Murrow influence on the Columbia Broadcasting System. His journalistic axioms for broadcast news reporting have been the gold standard for honest, accurate reporting over 80 years.

Me, and a lot of other people like me, constantly hammered at the MSM and exposed people to the definition of Gonzo journalism and the bias that was inherent to it. Even CBS went off the rail of Murrow's integrity in reporting. I watched Scott Pelley on the CBS EVENING NEWS.

Bottom line is the Fourth Estate is no longer trusted by the American people, not the smart and knowledgeable ones anyway.

The revolt against ISIS in Iraq going on has not been mentioned in the American press. Muslims by the thousands are demanding an end to ISIS.

If you have shortwave, listen to foreign English broadcast. Deutsche Welle in Germany, NHK in Tokyo, the BBC, or go to their websites.
NOTE: THE INTERNEST CAN BE SHUT OFF, SHORTWAVE RADIO CAN'T BE.

ADDENDUM: If you've ever seen the movie CITIZEN KANE, you know who William Randolph Hearst is.

Walter Cronkite cost us the Vietnam war after Tet. We won the battle and in a few weeks the North would have had to sue for peace. I remember him taking off his glasses and stating we had lost the war.

Both in Vietnam and Washington to have faith any longer in the silver linings they find in the darkest clouds. For it seems now more certain than ever, that the bloody experience of Vietnam is to end in a stalemate. To say that we are closer to victory today is to believe in the face of the evidence, the optimists who have been wrong in the past.

To say that we are mired in stalemate seems the only realistic, if unsatisfactory conclusion. On the off chance that military and political analysts are right, in the next few months we must test the enemy's intentions, in case this is indeed his last big gasp before negotiations.

But it is increasingly clear to this reporter that the only rational way out then will be to negotiate, not as victors, but as an honorable people who lived up to their pledge to defend democracy, and did the best they could.

This is Walter Cronkite. Good night.

The Lame stream media don't fully understand they can NOW be easily "tuned" out and replaced by someone with a home camera and a computer that can also "retransmit video from the various news channels.

Hundreds of media outlets on the internet for all categories, news, entertainment, cars, guns, camping, sports, bee keeping, even chickens.

Watch YouTube everyday and it's nice be able to "back up" and listen to again or "pause".

Use Fox but have started using Breitbart and a few others but don't know how reliable they are.

The media is a bias partisan DEMOCRAT sewer that 75%-80% of Americans absolutely do not trust.
These people are so self centered, parochial, and egotistical, they do not care how the rest of the world sees them.
Trump nailed it when he called them liars and scum.

Walter Cronkite---Maybe someone else heard it, but I didn't as Nam was raging and this SOB was reporting the carnage he never included in his broadcast leave the returning kids coming home from Nam alone

Never heard him say a word on how the kids as they returned were treated to the extent they dare not wear a uniform in public. He could have made returning home less stressful on top of what they had experienced

Westmooreland and the BS from the government sunk the Viet Nam campaign, not Cronkite.

The media is a tool being used to program those to small of mind or to lazy to seek the truth.

    Simply a biased propagana entity.

I don't think you can absolve Cronkite that cleanly. Cronkite and his biased reporting, along with the rest of the media, were a corrosive erosion of public support. Every battle was made to sound as though the US and the South Vietnamese were losing badly, no matter what the actual outcome was.

It must be remembered that 'The News' in the 60s and 70s consisted of nothing but ABC, CBS, & NBC. There was nothing else. They had control of what the American people saw, and they showed what they wanted to show to get the reaction they wanted.

Vietnam was the first war televised directly into the living room of Mr. and Mrs. America.

The newsmen had to run their reports through DOD and pictures of American dead were seldom shown.
The two biggest photos to sway the public was the photo of the General during Tet blowing out the brains of a VC with a S&W Bodyguard and the little naked Vietnamese girl running toward the camera getting away from a napalm strike.

Cronkite did bear some responsibility for the major swing of America. He was trusted. I grew up with him along with Chet Huntley and David Brinkly giving the nightly news. I wasn't old enough yet to go, but I knew if Uncle Walter said we couldn't win it, we couldn't win it.

There wouldn't have been a Vietnam war if it hadn't been for Truman's ego. If he would have let General MacArthur take care of all the crap that was going on in SE Asia the Korean war would have been over in 10 minutes. Russia would have been sent home with their tail between their legs knowing they would get the bomb too if they didn't mind their own business. He would have blown China back into the stone ages. Vietnam would just be a place on the map and nothing more.

At this point in history it would seem that we as a nation reached a tipping point. The biased media having known nothing but success since as far back as the Korean War (Conflict) became complacent and actually believed the garbage they were spewing. Further, they forgot about Joe Sixpack and believed that only the elite counted in this great nation. They were so wrong.

Perhaps we owe Obama, Clinton, and the media a debt of gratitude rather than universal condemnation. Their policies and behavior finally woke up the unwashed masses. Neither they nor the media so much as sensed what was about to happen. From their perspective what happened was unthinkable.

It doesn't take a genius to be aware that walking into coal country and proudly declaring that one's policy would put coal out of business might not garner a lot of support. ObamaCare is another case in point. It sounded great when it didn't put its hand too deeply into the pockets of the population in general. Now, with the double and triple digit increases, even the dullest voter at least had to wonder... And did! And then voted.

The media? The media somehow believed lies told often enough would become the truth. Luckily lies told often enough finally irritated many of us enough to vote against the establishment. Now we see a media backpedaling and attempting to explain the unthinkable (to them) and dealing with a stock market hitting record highs when it was supposed to crash. Imagine that!

So... Thank you media. In your attempt to destroy this nation you may well have saved it. Maybe not the expected outcome, but the God you don't believe in works in wondrous ways.
