Wife lost her job the end of August 2016 and had no insurance since then.

Using an online penalty calculator, our approximate fine will be $900+.

Thanks to all you Washington *.

Copied this from another site, may or may not be truth.

    Obamacare/Taxes thought you should know

Despite all the scare tactics from BOTH sides, it's true- the IRS can ONLY take your refund. They are prohibited by law from doing anything else. If you don't have a refund coming, as I don't, there is nothing they can do if you refuse to pay the fine.

So, all you armchair patriots out there... here's your chance to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. When you send in your taxes this tax season, omit the amount of the fine. They must apply your money to your Federal taxes FIRST. True story. Been researching this for awhile now and just finished a paid conversation with a tax attorney.

I thought if you had financial distress you could get out of the fine?

Also would you not qualify for Obammycare and a tax break?
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

She should have went to the DHHR (welfare) office and signed up for a Medical card when she lost her job.

A lot of miners here signed up for them due to losing their insurance.

I have never stepped foot inside of a Veterans office of any kind. Yet ever since Bumbag care kicked in they send me a paper each Jan. showing that I was covered under VA medical for the past year. The IRS accepts it as "proof of insurance" on my taxes.

If you are trusting IRS code to avoid paying what the IRS thinks you owe you are setting yourself up for a major heartache, trust me, I know first hand. There is nothing friendly about a certified letter from the IRS, right, wrong or indifferent they have the power. They have the power to reach deep inside your colon and squeeze your heart till it stops if you piss them off. There is NOTHING on earth worse than an IRS quota hire with an IQ of 93 chasing you to the end of time.
