Smith Model 17?

My step-dad just got back from a gun show in Tex. and came back with an unusual find. It is a K frame Smith, pinned barrel, marked 17-3, but it is in stainless. Mis-marked at the factory?

You sure it's stainless? Besides blue model 17s, also came in nickel.[:)]

    Yeah, probably nickel.

Either that or someone had it refinished.

    Great gun in any case.

    Probably nickle

You can't refinish a gun in stainless, it's not a finish it's a material that the whole gun is made of.

The Model 17 was introduced in 1946 and changed to Model 18 in 1957. The model 617 in stainless was introduced 1990. An extended ejector shroud was added a couple years later. A ten-shot version was intro'd in 1996.
