Does anyone have an iPad? My wife is planning on getting one and we are wondering what size to get. We have decided on the WiFi only model, but don't know if we should get the 16,32 or 64 gig model. She is going to be using it for photos and, web and email. She also will want to use it as an ebook. Does anyone know how many photos and ebooks each model can hold? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I have a couple of friends that have them and they rave how great they are for books, pics and video. Nice looking product, beautiful screen.

Unlike video and music, text takes up very little memory. You could put A LOT of books on 16 GB, but much like a gun safe, get more space than you need. I would go 64GB...

I have no use for one, but I can see it for certain applications - like those your wife contemplates.

Let us know what she thinks of it...

My wife has a 32gig 3G ipad, and I have to say for what you're describing (photos and web browsing) the thing is great. I would say for most people the wifi ipad is just fine.

32gig is really plenty of space as long as she's not going to store full length HD movies on it (o.k. to put them on and off for a trip or something, but don't keep them on their).

If you get one, I highly recommend an app called colorsplash. For $5 its incredible what it can do to photos and so easy to use.

Here's an example. This started as an all color photo and I turned it B&W and then brought the color I wanted back into it.

I'm looking at getting my wife one for her birthday as well. She would be using it for the same things that you describe. I'm looking at the 16 or 32 gig. I think the 64 is just overkill for her.

Just an FYI, if she is looking at the Nook or Kindle, there is a Nook app and a Kindle app for the ipad.

Twice the cost of a netbook, half the performance. Way way overpriced for what you get, but you didn't ask about that. In terms of size, everytime I've bought an iPod, I've gone to small. Go as big as you can afford. You'll eventually fill it.

Netbooks are completely different though. My wife doesn't want something that folds. And netbooks are just as susceptible to viruses as computers. Ipads are made by Apple and are therefore mostly problem free.

My baby really likes the ipad too.

Other than the camera, this photo was loaded directly onto the ipad, uploaded to photobucket from the ipad, and then pasted into here. All easy to do.

dont get me wrong, i might consider one if they werent so unreasonably priced. 500 bucks for the base model for literally nothing more than a giant ipod touch is completely and totally absurd. id be a buyer at 250-300 maybe, but 600/ not a chance.

all that being said, thats me. if it will make the wifey happy and you can spare the greenbacks then its a win win.

That's what it all comes down to. [:D]

I wish that apple products were more affordable as well, but I think that the quality would drop if they tried to price them lower. I don't know anybody that has ever had a problem with an apple product, other than something that they caused (i.e. smashed or scratched screen).

while just about everything they sell is expensive, i dont necessarily consider everything to be overpriced.

with some things, the cost to benefit ratio is more in line. the mac book pro is a great computer. lots of features, reliability, well constucted etc. it comes with a premium price, but you get premium quality.

the ipad has none of these high points. i can understand the 3g version being expensive, but the wifi only version is literally nothing more than a great big ipod touch. now, i love my itouch, but i have no need for a 5x version thats a few car payments.

keeping a nagging wife at bay for a while though, now thats worth just about anything....
