I'm gonna guess it has nothing to do with sticking the needle in a human body.

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

...OK folks. I'm just oiling a 1950 vintage Singer sewing machine. I just realized that some of you have lost friends or family to drugs or suicide. My "joke" was just to get some clever guesses. I realize it could have been in bad taste. For that, I'm sorry.
...The syringe does work great for that purpose, as well as guns. The oil does eat up the plunger seal though.

...I think "getting ready for a date" wins!..[:D]

...As a little kid, I did learn to sew and embroider. I was the youngest kid and the only boy. We even fixed worn out socks by darning. We weren't poor, but practical. Wife does all the sewing now. Not sure if I even remember how to thread that machine.
...Some years back, I bought her a fancy digital machine, but she likes that 60 year old, cast iron, bulletproof cabinet model.

My Aunt Josephine had an ANCIENT Singer that had the foot peddle on it.It had been updated in the 40's,with an electric motor but,it still had the pedal so it could be used with or without electricity.

I've got a number of oilers like that, you'd posted the anwser before I saw the post.

Sold a walking foot a few years ago to a man that had just gotten out of prison,he learned sewing there. He carried the machine then the table out like it was 20 pounds, big sumofagun.

Didn't do enough with it to warrent keeping it.Made some new cushions for my boat.I learned from my boss,he'd bought a Ferrari with a tan interior and he wanted black.Pulled every thing out and took it apart marking each panel and cut out black leather and sewed it up.Looked factory. He's good.

Guess it's the trickle down effect,my grandfather was a tailor.Nothing wrong with knowing how to sew.

    In my book that is.

...Heck, it made sense when I read it. As for being a euphemism, Hmmm...the action of a sewing machine is rather suggestive.

Coat the plunger seal with Vaseline - works for most oil, but not solvents.

...Thanks! I'll give that a try. I have one full of white lithium grease, but I haven't pulled the plunger out of it yet.

A very appropriate euphemism, considering the size of the needle and its rapid, mechanical reciprocation.

Oops, sorry, Tapwater, I posted before I saw you had said just about the same thing. Didn't mean to step on your joke.
