Marines Are Pretty Cool

My Nephew Jordan is going into the Marines. He was supposed to go at the end of this month.

He is working on his Eagle Scout and could not finish his project before he left for boot camp. His Dad asked for an extra month before he left and the Marines said take 2 months just to be safe.

I was surprised that they did that. They did ask him to participate in 1 training day a month just to exercise with them. He did that last Saturday and said he enjoyed it.

Jordan has been running cross country track for school the last 4 years. I told him he needs to buy a good pair of boots to run in some before he goes to basic.

I can not get him to understand running is shoes and boots is different. I also told him to take care of his feet and change socks as much as possible.

We will see how he does. He told me if he finishes his Eagle Scout project he will be an E-2 out of basic. Also if he gets 2 people to join he will be an E-3 after school.

I forgot what he is going to be though.

Good luck to him. Great advice from you about the boots. If he won't listen to you, tell him a USMC veteran recommends the same.

    The USMC loves Eagle Scouts.

When I was going for Eagle Scout, there was a strong religious thread to getting the rank.

Has that been maintained, or has it been PC'd away?

Sounds to me like Jordan's recruiter has his quota's made for the next two months.

A hearty congratulations to Jordan's soon to be Eagle Scout status!

I earned my Eagle rank in 1971 and there was no religious tie to Scouting nor the rank. Our troop met in a church basement and our awards ceremonies were in the church proper, but that's as close to religion as the troop got. The troop was a mixed bag of religions to boot.

I hope I didn't imply that there would be any difference at boot camp. Not sure how you would have gotten that idea.

I was in the military so i told him a few things like never laugh, keep a really low profile, try and never come in last during an exercise. Keep your uniforms and weapons straight.

Little things like that. I think running in the boots is the most important. Blisters are murder.

    Yes our familys are Baptist.[:)]

For some reason I believe dav1965 is west of the Mississippi so that would mean he will have a Hollywood Marine [;)]. I, myself, also went through MCRD San Diego 2001.

Have always wanted to visit paradise island though [}:)][}:)][:D][:D]

Edit: I guess I was wrong with my assumption, it seems he will end up at paradise island. I did spend 2 years in Jacksonville, nice area..[B)]
