Called LE today- Would you?

I went to Fazoli's this afternoon for lunch, or that's what I thought anyway.
Pulled in at 12:05pm on a Wed. afternoon, 3 vehicles in the parking lot? I mentioned to my co-worker that there are usually more cars at this time of day. Pouring down rain, shut off the truck, walked across the parking lot and pulled on the door. CLOSED? Doors locked, lights out, at NOON? Sign on the door says they open at 10:30am. I patronize this very location at least once a month, so I know they open for lunch every day. No notes on the door, no marquee sign notice. Street sign is on?
Disappointed, we went across the street to Pizza Hut. Got to wondering, "what if they are being robbed?". Pulled out the cell and dialed dispatch. Very courteous, listened intently, and said they would check things out.
Less than five minutes and two patrol cars were outside the restaurant. Watched from across the street as the officers got someone to answer the door. Evidently things were o.k. Officers left without incident and Fazoli's was open for business before I finished my meal.
Think I wasted their time?

    No, you did good.
(I'll refrain from making a joke about the manager sticking his finger in the pickle slicer...)

Nah. I can tell you this: I would rather go on a hundred such calls, and find out that nothing was amiss, than to go on one call where a serious crime occurred, and find that someone who should have called didn't.

I think you did right. The only person complaining was the pickle slicer.

Don't REALLY know anyone there. Just more familiar faces of my hometown.

You did the right thing, 1 in probably 100 or even 1000 that would have done the same thing.

Good for you. You done right. always better to make the call and cancel if not needed then to wait that extra minute 'to make sure' and then find out yep shoulda called earlier. Don't think there's many LE that mind getting calls like that.

You did what you thought was right...a man cannot ask for more than that. I probably would have done the same.

Heck yes you did right.......... could have been something going way bad.... with my kid, any members kid, or even some dipshot that thinks guns are evil, with a couple of baggies looking for $20. Shouldn't even have to ask that Mg, that's what we pay them for. Ya did good.

Many times I've interviewed neighbors after a burglary and found out they saw the crime in progress, but didn't make the call because they didn't think anything was going on at the time. Later, they thought DAYUM, I shoulda called the cops!!

It probably made them feel better knowing somebody was looking out for them.

i havn`t read the other replies, but i reckon you did real good! next time you go there you should tell the manager that it was you who called, if he`s a decent type he would appreciate you calling and buy your meal for you....i know i would!

I agree with everyone who says you did the right thing. But I disagree with most people doing the same thing. I think most people wouldn't think to call, or worse, couldn't care less.

I've got to agree with Nunn and Alpine. I tell people all the time that I'd rather check out 10K false alarms/idiot calls/prowler that turns out to be a cat/dog/skunk/raccoon/etc. Those are all ok, but i do NOT want to miss the ONE time it is a real call.

There are some places that have a sign that says something to the effect of....

"If these doors are locked during business hours, please call police."

    You did OK.

I would have called just to teach them a lesson to open on time. Some people have short lunch breaks you know... The KFC that went out of business near me used to open up a few minutes after 11am everyday even though the sign said 10:30am[:(!]

You did the right thing, heck I wish more people these days would get involved and call when they see something wrong. The police cannot be everywhere or see everything and I think its great when a citizen calls in something. Like Nunn said, I would rather go to a hundred of these calls then to go to one and find out someone was hurt and somebody could have called [;)]
