I was listening to the Police Scanner and heard about a burglar running through backyards about a 1/2 mile from my house. Reacting quickly, I grabbed my trusty 3 3/8" barreled 40 cal Wyoming Arms pisoliver and ran out into the street in front of my house. As I suspected, I saw someone run out into the street about 1/4 mile away. Fearing they would get away without being arrested (you all know how slowly cops respond to calls, what with donut runs and such), I shined (shone?) my 6 "D" sized Maglight in their direction and popped off an entire mag. That should show them who's boss. Maybe next time they'll think twice about coming to my neighborhood to rob and steal.

Edit: I forgot to mention the cal of my pisoliver. What loads do you think I should get from Wal-mart in the event this happens again.... oh wait, I hear Sirens!!!!!

    Drawing The Line
Several people have asked me what I'd do in the following circumstances:

    1. Private ownership of guns has been outlawed.
    2. The police (or Army, whoever) come knocking at the door to collect all my guns.

Let's leave aside the unlikelihood of such an event coming to pass for a moment. Let's also assume that there are no peripheral issues (like I'd just robbed a bank, or something). So what's the issue?

I'm going to be perfectly frank: it is a hell of a thing to stand up openly to government. Any government.

Many people shake their heads at images of Jews being loaded onto cattle trucks, and say they would never do such a thing.

Oh, really? Imagine writing a letter to the IRS, telling them you refuse to pay taxes, and if they want your money, they can come and get it. Then see how you feel when a hundred SWAT officers pull up in the APCs.

Or think about how many people said that they'd "never allow * into White schools". Anyone recall people shooting at the 101st Airborne in Little Rock back in 1957?

    Not so easy, is it?

The real fact of the matter is that no matter how brave you think you are ("cold dead hands" rhetoric notwithstanding), you don't know how you are going to respond to jack-booted thugs knocking at your door, until it actually happens. Nobody does.

So, in truth, I don't really know how I'd respond to the knock at the door. So much would depend on the circumstances. To name but a few:

Would I be the first, or would this be happening to thousands of others all over the country at more or less the same time?
Would all peaceful resistance have been tried already, and failed?
Would all legal avenues of redress have been tried already, and failed?
Would it be the local cops, or the FBI/ATF? (this would make a huge difference to me, incidentally)
Would this be a sudden event, or one which had been building up for many years?
And that's the important point about all this. Such government abuse seldom happens overnight. Rather, it is a long, incremental process -- in the case of guns: registration of guns, registration of gun owners, "ballistic fingerprints", purchase limits (time and quantity), limits on types of firearms that could legally be owned, and so on. Additionally, there would have to have been a long-term vilification of "gun owners as de facto criminals, before public opinion would allow such raids to take place.

That all this is going on right now should give everyone pause. Which is why the best way to fight State abuse is not to make "cold dead hands" statements, but to fight continuously against the incrementing of all those petty restrictions which will one day make gun ownership impossible, and confiscation a simple matter.

Until such time, we should use all available legal means to stop the increment of gun laws, and start rolling back most of them. We should also stop this bull**** of the lefty media painting gun owners as rightwing Cracker militia types. (I remember, incidentally, how the great adman David Ogilvie remonstrated with people about ads that were "too complicated" for the average housewife to understand. He said: "The consumer isn't an idiot. She's your wife.")

A gun owner isn't some foaming militia-obsessed whackjob: he's your neighbor.

So don't ask me how I'd respond to this scenario.

Let government find out who would violently resist gun confiscation, and let them find it out the hard way, if they dare.

A pisoliver is what a fine pistoler such as myself uses to "take back the night". I also use it to to make "sound shots" at whatever it is that my guard dogs are barking at.

I'll go ask the people down the street. I'm pretty sure my neighbor is a thief or a Nazi that runs a Meth Lab, I can't remember which.

#1 I wouldn't be shooting that "Shorty". I heard that they are very rare and might be valuable.
    # 2 I'm proud of you for emptying your mag. You can never be to careful when you are shooting at an unknown target.

Maybe pisoliver was what the burglar did on his own leg when he was getting shot at.
