Getting the Traverse back today Timing and Heater$

Its one of those things that happens on any car at a certain time. The check engine light was coming on....it had a little "sputter" when driving it every once in a while. It ended up being a Timing chain....timing valve something.....I don't remember the exact words, but something to do with "Timing"
AND....
While its there I had them fix the mess going on with my heater. It had three actuators out and it wasn't letting you choose how the air was flowing. You want heat??? Your getting cold air on your leg, hot air on the legs of your passenger and ice cold air out of the vents. You want it to defrost the window.....no.....it will blow out of only your passenger leg vents and the very rear of the car vents.
All of this is costing nearly $3000 to fix. I swear.....I can't go 6 months without a crazy thing to deal with that costs a fortune to fix!

Chains lasted umpteen years
Check engine light coming on and they said it was a timing chain. How many miles is on the vehicle?
I forget....its quite a bit though.....its a 2010
I hate that the design idiots have used belts that require the front of the engine to be taken down to replace every x number of miles.

It could be timing valve....I don't know really.....the guy is a decent person and everyone likes him that uses him, so I trust whatever he says is going on. He has fixed things for me for free when it was something silly several times.
Sorry to hear of the problems and expense you are dealing with LF.
Remember TRAVERSE is French for Crossing and it sounds like your are at one.[:I] I have a rule that I never compliment anything mechanical because eventually they will always let you down.
Had the timing chain done a while back, along with the power steering assembly, which still isn't right. Now we're waiting for the wave plate in the transmission to break.
Other common issues is the a/c will leak freon behind the dash, headlight sockets burn up, motor mount failure, and probably a few things I'm forgetting.
Toyota.
timing valve and muffler bearings,... always a big problem.
Also missing regular changes of your blinker fluid.
There should be an extended warranty for the timing chain issue. We have a 2009 Outlook which is the same vehicle as the traverse. We had a dealer claim our issues weren't covered because it wasn't exactly in line with the service bulletin, estimated about $4k or so, to fix it all. We took it to another dealer who fixed everything under the extended coverage.[:(!]

This is the replacement vehicle that I got from the dealer who sold me a salvage title car without me knowing. It took getting a lawyer involved before it was all over. The guy that did the work said he put the updated chain on it....so maybe this is a done deal. The heater still has an issue...it works, but the passenger side has no heat. To fix it he was going to have to pull the dash out and I don't love my passengers enough to pay that much.
I can't imagine trying to get the dealership to fix anything after the nightmare we went through. On the way home I found out one of my turn signals is out. I'm not allowed to have a 100% working car....its just never going to happen.

Other years also have the same issue.

The chains are the issue, not a belt.
GM has a well known issue with timing chain stretch throwing a code. If you get the GM rep on the phone he may make some allowances for you. This issue is a real problem with the V-6 engine in the Traverse, Enclave. Some Caddi's and Acadia.

Thank you for the info! I will try to hound them and see what happens.
I just read it and it says the cut off date is 2013....so I don't know if that is something they will fix, but you would think if it were this big of an issue there would be a recall or it would have been a required fix before the dealership passed it along to the next buyer.
Polite, persistent complaints to GM Regional reps WILL get results, do not take no for an answer.
The fine folks at Obama motors want your loyalty to buy another over engineered hunk of junk GM product in the future. I can say that because I sold several hundred of them...[;)][:)][:p]

We will be in the market very soon for another vehicle.....and if they take care of this mess it will go a long way with Larry in how he picks whatever truck he ends up getting.
