No...and I pray to God that I never do! Does anyone really know what causes it?

Eat some cherries. I think that is supposed to help it.

...Excess uric acid that crystalizes in the joints. Avoid red meat and beer. (or, just shoot me).

Gout is a complex medical problem. A form of arthritis. One cause is the depostion of uric acid in the joints (articular gout) usually of the big toe. Gout is treatable these days.

Yes! I know that pain. Been taking meds (allopurinol and colchicine) for about 20 years. Haven't had an episode in 10 or so years. I have heard cherries work for some.

This site shows foods high in purines (the ones to avoid):

Check WebMD and search for gout for more info.

I hope your episode clears up soon.

....One time, the pain was bad enough to drive me to seeing a podiatrist. He gave me an injection into the side of the foot, right at the large joint of the big toe. Man!, did that hurt, but the relief was almost instant. I don't recall what the drug was.

....Somtimes, I get a mild case of it that goes away in one to five hours or so. Drink a boat-load of water. It helps flush the acid out.

One of my friends gets the gout every once in awhile. He drinks
plenty of water and keeps the foot elevated.

I've had gout for 14 years. Been controlling it for 8. A good rheumatologist will do wonders for you. Initially an aggressive campaign of Allopurinol, Colchicine and Naprosyn knocked it down. Now, Allopurinol and Colchicine keep it at bay. I would take back the gout attacks in a heartbeat if I could trade them for these flat feet. For me, the gout attacks were either on or off, rarely lasting more than a week. The flat feet are 24/7/365.
