New S&W's - no internal locks.

Smith and Wesson introduces into their new products line revolvers without internal locks!

Will Smith and Wesson do away with their antigunner's compromise and market more models without internal locks? Will they maintain this trend?

I very much like S&W revolvers, especially those older models without the internal doo-hickey.

Manufacturers are cutting fat. The lock is an added expense in the manufacturing process for somthing that probably no one has ever used.
I too am a big S&W fan and am glad to see this.

Plus S&W full filled their promise that all the guns they manufacture thru 2008 would have locks... 2009 is almost here...

My carry piece is a Mod. 37 DAO w/a bobbed trigger, no lock, purchased new in 2006. I was told it was a contract overrun for some foriegn goverment.

Glad to see S&W losing the PC BS

Wouldn't buy a Smith with a lock. Waited patiently on certain models to appear up for auction that were "pre-lock".

Love my Smiths; but, hate the locks.

Do you expect these "Internal Lock Models" will become collectable?

Man thats great, they should have at least offered it as an option from the start and not just made it in every model. Two of my four smiths have locks.. None of them would had i been given the option.

How long till you can send in a Lock model, and get it converted? Or get a kit for the conversion at your gunsmith's?
Or, purchase an aftermarket DIY kit?

According to an entry on Smith and Wesson Forums, this current edition of snubs comes from a batch of frames that were already manufactured prior to the inclusion of internal locks into their regular line of revolvers:

At this time, no plans exist to manufacture other models without the internal lock. Perhaps those 442's and 642's are bound to become collector pieces.
