OK - the deal from H%ll - Please someone tell me what I can do. Sold a gun- upon arrival the vent rib on the barrel ( second one closest to the receiver got bent. Pics show no damage when posted- Not saying they did it and not saying I did it. Package is not damaged. Sent him a new barrel and shipping to send back bad barrel. Not happy with new barrel wants the old barrel fixed. no problem, ship it back and I will fix. not good enough for him. He wants his smith to do it - Cost is 160.00. I said ship me everything and I will refund totally including all ship and FFL monies. He refuses, wants to keep the gun and will not give me back the second barrel untill I pay 160.00 to his smith. The whole gun and barrel value 395.00. - I feel a little blackmailing. Now what can I do- Iowa

1)easisets and little confrontation: cut your losses on the second barel and shipping. tell hime your square and end it.

    2) keep fighting the good fight. tell him either he sends back one of the barrels, the whole kit for repair, or the whole kit for refund. make it clear that these are the only options and odnt budge. ** note that this route will probably end in the same place as option one**

unless properly resolved, post negative feedback.

How did you ship it? if you sent it via usps, they might want to help.

I would contact usps and start a claim, maybe a postal inspector giving a call will help him remove his head from his *.

I have to agree that the threat of a mail fraud investigation is possible solution. Notifying his FFL that HIS name will be included should also help stir things on that end. Nobody wants the feds looking into their business.

As always, you might want to consult an attorney before actually involving the authorities.

What do you guys think about the gunsmith charge (160.00) to fix the barrel?

Let thsi be a lesson. If there is ever a "next time" get the damaged part back 1st. Never let a customer be in a position of having the upper hand.
I'd go after the FFL as well as the customer on a mail fraud case. Possibly contact BATFE and see if they could get involved.

I agree that you should have gotten the gun and/or parts back first before sending the replacement. I think you did all you could do by offering a complete refund or replacement of the damaged item/parts. I'd also give him bad feedback, and make sure you save all of the e-mails and his information and ban him from your auctions permenantly.

BTW, you got the auction # on that auction?

$160 sounds like a rip off, not to him from his smith, but from him to you.

Take the other advice to get the batf and postal services involved in this fraud.

Sent a certified letter to him telling him to return all of it for a full refund and you will pay the shipping. Maybe even prepay the shipping.

If you had the insurance from the post office on the shipment it would be insured. Have him file the claim, he has to and the FFL dealer as the receiver....best part but dont tell him... the post office takes and pays the claim but keeps broken merchendise for auction LOL... the second barrel.... good luck

If he sent you a picture of the bent rib on the barrel how do you know it is the barrel you sent him?. He could have had a bad barrel for that shotgun and is just trying to get it fixed for nothing.

I have learned an expensive lesson on this one. I will indeed start the process of the claim. I have requested pictures of the damaged barrel and have yet to receive them. I will never again allow my self to be blackmailed in this way. I thank you all for your advice and wish I would have asked your advice what to do in this situation before I shipped the extra barrel. I will update you on my progress- Thanks for very solid advice- iowa

Where is the buyer located? If he is within a few hundred miles of you, you could always file a small claim lawsuit.

Sounds like you're out the 2nd barrel. I'd cut your losses, file a claim with the USPS as the other posters advise and leave negative feedback. Chalk it up to a learning lesson. Good luck.

Buyer is too far away from me. I am going to post a claim today and I will indeed chalk it up as a lesson learned. TOOOOO trusting --- I was- Thanks All

If you are planning to post an insurance claim to the post office for damage, "YOU" can't do it. The recipient is the one that has to do it with HIS post office. He then mails you the claim, you get reimbursed from your post office, then send the money to him. (been there, done that)

From the sounds of it, it has been a while, since this was mailed. Along with the fact that you said the package was NOT damaged upon receipt, you are SOL I am afraid. But I am sure that you have found this out, if you have been to the post office already.

As far as $160 to fix it, look on ePay. There are barrels (slug, 28", 30", etc.) that have sold there for LESS than $100. A hard lesson for sure, but I am glad to see you have learned.

I just read on the USPO web site that in an internet transaction i can start the claim and he must finish. They will send him notice to bring the damaged barrel in for inspection. ( if there is one- since I have not received the pics) - Going to the P.O. in an hour and find out.

I would go down to your local district attr. office and see if you can file theft by deception charges agaisnt him , even if you can't , I would tell him you where going to because sometimes a threat like that will wake them up ,

    You made a mistake.

It is not worth the hassle or stress.

I would let the auction authorities know and have them kick him of the site.

I almost forgot if he has not paid you it is called theft and possibly mail fraud.

Well, were you able to start the ball rolling? And, YES, some do think they can push women around when it comes to guns, auto repair, etc.

The buyer did contact me by phone- After I questions him about pictures of the damaged barrel his reply was his camera was broke. I told him I had enough of these games and I will turn everything over to the USPO- his reply was ( you are a ******* yankee ) at which time I hung up not needing to here any more vulger language. Never been called a ****** Yankee before but I guess this is not a nice thing to be called. More than willing to discuss this but not with that type of language directed at me. So lets see how this plays out. he is not a seller a rating of 3 for a buyer and I don't think his feedback will affect him but I will post neg. feedback worded appropriately.

$160 is BS--I've bought barrels for less than that.

Iowa, where abouts are you from? I've got one space left in my gun cabinet and would like to change that. (HINT, HINT). Drop me a line with whatever you've got. That way you can get some benefit out of all this.
