Anybody ever volunteer for medical research?

The IU med school is paying $160 + for volunteers to do a skin bacteria study. 50 bucks for the screening, another 50 to inject a mild bacteria under the skin, then $15/day for up to 10 days (4 minimum) to have it looked at every day and another $50 if they get the reaction they want and do a biopsy.

Maybe I should just sell another gun.

honorary former navy test parachutist. theyd wire you up and take readings off you to see what happens when a parachute rips or tangles on opening. and then, to really make it hurt, theyd take motion pictures of you so others could watch you panic and flail like a banchee looking for the ripcord that tore off in flight as you left the airplane and make training films saying: 'dont do this!" it all made for great friday night at the movies with popcorn and sodas. we watched ejection seats that failed with dummies, crashes, extraction chutes tearing off the backs of c-130's, c-2's in nose dives where the load failed to release from the rails, rubber raiding craft seperating from good parachutes after opening, total malfunctions, r&d of the infamous 17' aeroconical for the F-18 with live jump guys impacting the ground at 32 fps. (normal landing 18-20fps w/ 24'flat).....oh what goes on behind the lines that 99% of the world doesnt know about.....and we the brave got paid 55.00 extra. does this qualify as medical research? hope so.[:0]

I am a Anthrax guinea pig and was injected with a batch that was recalled by the FDA because the company that makes it had a labratory that was as filthy and unsanitary procedures on making the cultures.

I get paid $0 extra to be injected with expiramental drugs.

I also was on Vioxx for a year and a half and was one of the guinea pigs given it for treatment the drug was not intended for. The FDA recalled it because a bunch of people got heart attacks and strokes.

I think we are all guinea pigs to fatten pharmecutical pockets.

When they start talking about injecting bacteria under the skin and getting the reaction they want, they have just lost me. It sounds like the bacterium may not be so harmless if they expect a reaction that they would want a biopsy. Just remember, in any sort of PROPER experiment like this, there has to be an equal number of blind controls for it to have any meaning what-so-ever. Of course the person participating has NO choice as to which group he is in, and in fact will not even be told which group he is in. My suggestion would be for the researchers to inject each other, or use the board of directors of the company sponsoring this project.

I was asked to be part of a test linking PTSD with Adrenaline production, consisting of going to the VA hospital once a week for four weeks. the test took about three hours and consisted of blood draws about every ten minutes after an injection of a chemical produced by the brain that causes the production of adrenaline. I got a voucher for $10 in the cafeteria and mileage, and I think there was a $50 payment following completion of the participation. I haven't heard if the study has been completed. I should probably call & ask. There was a shortage of suitable vets, since it was necessary to be diagnosed with PTSD and be a non-drinker, drug user (even prescription), and possibly even non-smoker, as these chemicals would skew the results. Since those behaviors are common with sufferers of PTSD, I was a real rarity. Since I've been on sertraline since then, now I wouldn't even qualify.
