Yeah, great. Now we're going to help the Japanese get their foot in the door in one of the few remaining big US industries.
Seattle will become a ghost town in ten years.

In general, supersonic flight is too noisy to do over populated areas (ie land).

So no 2.5 hour LA-NY flight.

I'll never get aboard anything built by Mitsubishi, 6-8 bullets and kaboom [:D][;)]

ON a serious note, I am highly skepticcal about super sonic jetliners for several reasons:

    1. she may be "fuel-efficient" compared to the Concorde or an F-15, but a super-sonic jet will still be one thirsty bird when compared with, say a 777. Naturally this will make costs go up and at present fuel prices (which may well continue to rise by 2020) the project may be stillborn.

    2. Super-sonic planes fly closer to the "edge" that regular jetliners or military cargo planes. Therefore they require better upkeep than planes which are put under lesser strain. Paying the maintenance costs on her will be a pain in the butt at best.

    3. Finally, only on trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific flight could the plane go supersonic. Concorde was not allowed to break the sound barrier over population centers (ie practically all of Europe and the US East Coast)

ALl of these factors combine to make this an expensive, limited-production birdie. Sure, one will find businessmen (and women) who wil be able to pay for the faster transit, but they will be a limited marketshare.

i smell a flop in the making, just like the SST we developed, just like the russian Tu-144, and eventually just like the concorde.

There wont be enough wealthy buisnessmen to justify making a supersonic aircraft capable of holding over 100 people, those execs will opt for their own private jet instead.

With fuel costs as they are now.... this is just plain stupid
