A pizza delivery man in Detroit shot and killed a man trying to rob him Sunday night, according to police.

Police said the man was approached by men on the 20000 block of McCormick at about 10 p.m. According to police, one of the men produced a handgun, so the delivery man - licensed to carry a concealed weapon - pulled out his gun and fatally shot the man.

Two other men have been arrested in connection with this case in Harper Woods, Detroit police said.

According to Harper Woods police, the two men arrested are residents of Harper Woods. They were arrested on Woodside near Sanilac after being seen running north on Harper near Roscommon by an officer, police said.

They were turned over to Detroit police, according to Harper Woods police.

The investigation, police said, is ongoing.

Curious how this incident will be treated there in Libland. In the unoccupied portions of America there would be a bit of paperwork, followed by a pat on the back and the return of the owner's firearm.

Interesting, Harper Woods isn't really that bad of an area (compared to the surrounding areas)

It ain't what it used to be, Eastland mall is pretty ghetto now..
ever since they stopped requiring the city cops to live in the city, the "copper canyons" that surrounded HW went away....

Exactly the same thing happened to Richard Davis, developer of Second Chance body armor. He was a pizza man in Detroit, and had to shoot some thugs who tried to rob him. Rich was delivering his own pizzas from his own shop, so he didn't have to worry about being fired.

If I owned a pizza joint, I'd pay employees with CCW permits extra. I'd rather some scumbag get blown away than have an employee get harmed.

I know a guy that got robbed at gunpoint delivering Pizza.

The question is: if you are a Pizza delivery boy....

    1) do you even care if you lose your job?

    2) Is it worth risking your life to protect your employers money are you carrying much of your own money?

of course, not shooting the robber is also taking a risk.
In the college town of Davis, CA, there were a number of incidents of Pizza delivery guys getting robbed.
None were harmed, suggesting that it was probably safe just to give the guys a free pizza and what little money you had on you, rather than risk a shoot-out.

The guy I know thought something was suspicious about the delivery location, and I think repeat offenders would be easily caught if the police spend a bit of time tailing a few of the more suspicious deliveries.

Personally, I think Pizza delivery is stupid. The people that buy them are often from the economic class that should not be wasting money on such things. Most delivery pizza is greasy and if you look at it a few hours later, quite disgusting.

until your pizza business gets sued a couple times, and it costs you $100K in legal fees to defend yourself in one case, your business loses its insurance carrier and you can't find another until you develop a strict policy that bars employees from carry weapons. Good luck with that....there is what is right, and then there is reality. Sometimes business people have to choose what is reality if they want to stay in business.

I too live in the Detroit metro suburbs within 20 miles of this. The television showed the pizza laying in the snow, (still boxed). It's not all lib-land here. Many folks support the delivery man, who by the way had a permit.

Left over pizza (picked up, not delivered... you save a tip thataway) makes a fine breakfast, if there's any still left, it'll do for dinner too. Ask any college student.

If you go into the back of any pizza store here that delivers, you will find a map on the wall, with certain areas shaded in. These areas get no deliveries.

And in some shaded areas where it is an apartment, the folks have to come out to the vehicle. I wouldn't like to do that job, but like taxi driver, a day-time route would be best.

If I were a pizza delivery guy in Detroit, I'd carry too.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

That's funny! Look at just about any food product that was cooked up fresh and hot, after a few hours, and it will also likely be disgusting.

Nah, really its only the really greasy stuff that looks like this.. when all the grease and oil solidifies.

Yes, its still edible, but not very appealing.

From what I saw in college, the people ordering delivery were the same people complaining about always being short on cash.

Meanwhile, I'd just put a piece of meat on the frying pan that I picked up half off (or even less) by doing late night shopping at the grocery store ('cause they officially expired at midnight).

It was especially bad considering my apartment was across the street from the Safeway parking lot.... and the people still spent the money on greasy over priced delivery pizza.

If they're too lazy to walk across the street to buy something, and then boil water/ flip something over on a frying pan a few times... I really didn't want to hear about how they were short on cash.
