Without a doubt. Loved that song since I was a kid and always makes me think of family and friends I have lost. Always brings tears to my eyes. Will be played at my funeral.
Somewhere over the Rainbow has always been one of my favorites, and I would have thought that no one could compete with Judy Garland singing it. In fact, when my brother sent me a link to this version, he said he knew how much I liked the song, but listen to this, because he thought it was better.
I am not sure I can disagree. Eva Cassidy had an incredible voice, and she was taken from us far too soon. She would have been a power for many years.
There are so many songs to choose from. . .
Over the Rainbow (I prefer Eva Cassidy over Garland here)
Wonderful World (Armstrong)
Pie Jesu (Sarah Brightman & Paul Miles-Kingston)

Right. An ASPCA ad. Also in a lot of movie soundtracks.
Those dogs in that ad with the song playing always tugs the heat.
Lot's of amazing song out there. I can't limit myself to just one. Way to many to choose from.
A few more to add. I can't stand the man, but I liked "Imagine" by John Lennon.
What about "Fields of Gold"?
Armstong with "What a wonderful world" ranks very high on my lists. So does the version of "Amazing Grace" by the Celtic Woman. Never heard of Celtic Woman, but wow!
Well, I hate to be the old grouch in the room, but I can't stand "Its a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.
I was a kid in the early sixties and that guy was everywhere. Someone posted a pic of Jane Fonda the other day from Cat Ballou. Well, I saw that at the drive in in 1964, there was Louis Armstrong, on screen during the movie, doing the sound track and singing.
Every variety show you turned on, like Andy Williams, there he was, playing his horn and singing. Every time you turned on the radio, there he was. He was celebrated, popular, and very rich. A great horn player. But he sounded like crap when he sang! He couldn't sing.
All the adults loved the guy and I could never understand it. I felt like the little kid in the crowd crying out, "The Emperor has no clothes!"

Greatest song ever recorded is a very tall order considering how many songs are in the running. This one has to be close to the top of the all time best lists.

Think you got that one mixed up with Nat King Cole who was actually considered a very good singer.
Edelweisse, for sure,if you consider the time and meaning it has for the meaning of the time as it was portrayed in "The sound of Music".
Of course, it does not help I'm getting estrogen shots for prostate cancer, but if you think this is a country folk song that mirrors the country spirit that was being overrun by the nazis,
Also,if this seems a little incomprensible, I'm on 2 percosets and 5mg oxycodene every 4 houres, thanks to a * backed.

The Battle Hymn of the Republic by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Yeah, that's an excellent one, too.

Pretty, but I find it hauntingly sad for some reason.
Close second is "Hero" by Iglesias

Somehow I think if I make it to heaven, the Angels singing will sound like this.
