What OS is as easy as XP?

I'm being forced to upgrade.
I would like something as easy and recognizable as XP.
Any suggestions?

I guess windows 7 is okay. My wife recently bought a new lap top that came with windows 8. She can't stand it and most other people do to as they are gonna upgrade it later this year. When that happens she will be able to take her lap top in and they will upgrade it at no charge.

I have found that Vista is easy to use as an old Xp user.

I know there is a lot of bad hype about Vista, but it was a somewhat painless transition.

    Win7 is probably ok.
Win8 is okay if you are a 8 year old kid brought up on a video game.[xx(]

Vista is actually an early version of Windows 7 per se. I consider it right in between.

Windows 7 is very much like XP in my mind anyway. If you can use XP, you will have very few issues adapting to Windows 7.

Windows 8.1 is different, although I have no problems with it personally. I wouldn't bother though, as Windows 10 is due out this Fall, and you will be able to upgrade for free for a year if you have Windows 7 or above.

If your machine will handle Win-7, go for it.

Windows 7 and XP are about as similar as you can expect. It's a lot like the difference between Windows 95 and Windows 98, with the noted exception being that there are no performance issues with XP or Windows 7, like there was with 95 and 98.

+1. An older computer may not run with Windows 7 or even Vista.
Go HERE to check your computer's compatibility with Windows Vista and Windows 7.

I have had XP, Vista and Win 7. I, like you, felt forced to make a change even though I liked XP. Went to Vista and found it bad even with a high end computer. Terribly busy in its background gyrations and extremely problematic with all its bells, whistles and graphics. I consider Win 7 as Vista debugged and streamlined.I think Microsoft did too. I am very satisfied with it. I have used it for several years.I just got a Laptop for my wife and opted for Win 7 over Win 8 because I have grown wary of new system releases from MS.

Windows 7 is fast, stable, and user friendly.. It lost the incredible bloat that VISTA has.. If you can't find one with Windows 7, but need a new machine now, go with Windows 8.1.. You'll be entitled to a free upgrade to Windows10, when it's released.. Win10 will ,hopefully, return to a more user friendly user interface..

If you do need to get a Win8.1 machine, you can make it more user friendly with this simple, free program..

Thanks for the responses, I tried to use Vista on a friend's desktop a few years ago & couldn't stand it then; stupid program expected ya to decipher its' random method of shoving data into unheard-of places & making ya look for it instead of finishing the work ya started in the 1st place.
I have seen the light, and being a curmudgeon as well as a Luddite compels me to await the ethereal benefits of Win10.
Any idea as to which notebook/laptop has the fastest bus speeds anib?
Since my computer fried, I've been trying to use a "smartphone" to keep in touch. It can't do interwebs very well at all, or I'd be looking this stuff up myself!

My laptop is a 17.3" screen Toshiba running Win 8.1 with an i5 processor and 12gb of ram. It is more than powerful enough for what I do,...actually overkill to be honest. It's very fast.

My XP, Vista, and Win7 machines are desktops. I have the Win7 desktop and my laptop hooked to a 26" LED Viewsonic IPS monitor, and the other two share an old 19" LCD.

As long as you get at least an i3 with 6 to 8gb, you're covered except for extreme gaming.

In general the even numbered releases SUCKED and the odd ones have been stable. Now that they are skipping 9 and going right to 10 I'm not sure that will hold, but it should. I need to upgrade my laptop, but am really holding off to see if 10 is OK, since it is in Beta now, I think I will have the boys build me a VM so I can play with it....

I hate 8,8.1 and server 2012 which is based on 8. Why they put a touch based GUI onto a server platform I will never ever know. It is maddening trying to use some of our newest servers.

We went from XP to 7 Ultimate and seen not much difference in them.
    Just a little faster.
