Dog's Name

edited May 2006 in General Discussion
I've had dogs named "Jake" (A Rhodesian mix, best dog I ever owned), Bolo & Ruger (both GSDs), Louie (all black Cocker), Cookie Jo (mutt) and Zoe (Bichon Fise). The question is this; does your dog's name match his breed/personality.
I've always wanted to get a dog and name him "Mein Utz". Think of the possibilites... people call and ask what you're doing? Sitting on the couch scratching Mein Utz. Wat are you doing later? Taking Mein Utz for a walk around the park. Oh, all the moms love playing with Mein Utz at the park. I just put Mein Utz in the carseat next to me and we go for long drives... it's almost endless.

I have a Bernese Mountain Dog named Eiger. At 150 lbs, he's a mountain of a dog; he deserves a mountain name.

Does this mean you also fly? If so, does "Rivets" go up?

I just got a Springer Spaniel and I simply call him "Dog". He don't seem to mind much. I call my Rott "Numbnuts", dumbest damn dog I have ever seen. My buddy named his dog "Poopsie". Now there is a name that will get your butt kicked if on the right side of town.

When I was little, I used to have a collie/st. bernard mix named Ben. Looked just like a cross between a collie and a lion (he had a mane). Of course, he was the size of a St. Bernard, so he had the tendency to scare the **** out of everyone. [:D]

I quote the AKC website for German Shepherd Dog standard..."a white dog MUST be disqualified" However, I believe it for show purposes only, not for registration of a member of a line.

    Dog names should fit the personality. Just a few of my current ones;

    Theodore....Mastiff
    Bonet.......Bulldog
    Fred........Lab
    Pearl.......Bassett Hound
    Rudolf......Pom
    Gretel......Weiner Dog
    Earl........Terrier
    Buppy.......Terrier Mix
    Frank.......Husky

Plus a lot of more conventional dog names like Tiny, Heathern, Demon, Xtratiny, Moose, Romeo, George, Jennifer, and Rebecca.

This is my dog MuttLee, he's a "special" dog. He's either the dumbest dog in NE Ks., or he's got me well trained. He's a Lhasa Apso crossed with something. I suspect it's a billy goat. Here he is hunting turkeys and celebrating Christmas.

We had a Springer for 7 years named Missy. She was put to sleep after 1 1/2 years of suffering with Addisons disease. She was a great friend and we miss her. However, about 6 months before we put Missy down my daughter (12) begged for a "lap" dog. We found a miniature Long Haired Dachsund! (small hairy wiener dog!). Courtney named her "Derby", we got her right before the Kentucky Derby 2 years ago. I don't know why but she sure seems like a Derby to us!! Derby is about the funniest and most loving dog I've ever seen. I'd like to enter her in the wiener dog races!

....LF, I too had an "Arf". Dumbest mutt that ever walked on 4 legs. Also had Sam, Fritz, Dog, Spud, Guido (Irish setter), Ralph, and the current candidate for most worthless, lovable mutt, Zeke.

....Yea...standing in the yard yelling "Aaaaarrrrffff" makes one look somewhat daft.

wundudnee - if those paws are out-turned as they appear to be in the pic, I'd say you've got a genuine Lhassett Houndso. Rare breed found only in the homes of big-hearted owners.

Yes Rivets goes flying with me.He also can't wait to get out! When I slow down in the pattern he starts whining and barking and I can hardly talk on the radio. DWS, you need to finish that Corsair and * 'er in the air. It'll be worth more that way.

Many, many dogs through the years but my favs:

A female mutt - Ruby Tuesday.

Male Great Dane - registerd name Dakota Sunka Tanka - aka Dawg

Dawg was a special show quality Dane, and a lady heard me call him that once and said "couldn't you find a better name for such a magnificent animal".lol

All right. But you've SEEN my back yard. It ain't big enough for a Shepherd. You'll have to come get your pup before I get attached. Then you'll have to explain it to Zoe. And the Mrs. Frankly I'm more worried about Zoe.

Zoe will welcome the company. And if not, that french * can hit the bricks... we're talkin' family here. She won't be the first French dame I sent packin'. As for the Mrs... one look at those beautiful puppy dog eyes and she'll give in. I mean mine, of course

Lost my going-on-10-year-old pal Jake in late winter, to cancer. His name fit him well -- nothing pretentious about him -- he was a roustabout with anything that came onto the property. He was a lab/collie/samoyed mix and weighed about 100 pounds. I miss him.
