USS Ranger and USS Midway

It's hard for me to realize and accept the Ranger and the Midway have both been decommissioned. I had the opportunity to be on the Ranger for 37 days in 1969, and she seemed to be a state of the art vessel at the time. I know that was a long time ago, but it seems to me it would be cheaper to update the ol' girl than to dump her. Talk about a floating city!!!!

Forrestal for me. Three years before the mast on that one. Now that was a big city.

Was she on fire for your full three years? We used to call her the USS Forest Fire.

Once a month or so. Nothing real serious. We called her the USS RONSON. 134 guys lost their lives in '67 in that fire. Pretty sobering actually.
