They finally admitted on the news tonight that Arsnic is fed to chickens...and has been for many years.

Amazing how people look at you strangly when facts such as this are mentioned. Course, it ain't a fact till they see it on CBS,NBC, Ect...
They hastened to assure us that it, of course, poses absolutely no threat to human life...

Sorta like Mercury. That substance is a deadly poison everywhere in the world...'cept in your mouth...

I know why the dentist used to put mercury in my mouth.
But, why do they feed chickens arsenic?

Arsenic is a dietary supplement fed to several types of animals in order to control intestinal parasites. The most common form that I know of is Roxarsone and is much like the concept of giving some form of worm medicine to your dog or cat, or having them wear a flea collar. It is a poison, but if the quantities fed were too large, it would kill the chickens, so you're not going to get a deadly dose from eating the meat. The long term effect is less certain since continuous exposure can cause certain types of cancer. That's one of the reasons that drinking water is checked for it since it occurs naturally in most water.

If it doesn't kill the chicken - it won't kill you. (bodymass)

Anyhoo - you'd need to eat a LOT of chickens to get sick from arsenic..

Well - you're more likely to get sick of chickens, rather than arsenic. [:D]

They busted the Amish in Pennsylvania for making cyder from uncored apples.

Crushing apple seeds with the apple is bad....apple seeds are poison and can kill people.

Talk to a dermatoligst about drinking well water. Well water contains arsenic and most dermatologists can tell what kind of water you drink from a quick examination.

Apple seeds contain cyanide-like compounds (they become cyanide when digested), not arsenic, but it still probably is not a good idea to feed too many to the dog. The seeds have a shell which lets them pass through the gastric system intact if they are not crushed, but if you chew them enough to break the hull, then the compounds will be released.

Have you ever just sat down and had a chat with a chicken?

I know that Art Bell leaves mics around in large processor's
chicken coops at night and has picked some interesting
    conversations ... here's one now![:D]

Yup, it's on the list of things to protect your dog from. So are onions and chocolate.[:)]
