I'm thinking about gettin a new plinker and have been looking at a couple of different 22's. So I'm looking for opinions on the
Sig mosquito and the Walther P22.

From a multitude of reviews I've read, the Walther will give you headaches. Don't take my word on it though, I don't own any .22 pistols/revolvers. I did have a good time with a little Taurus 9-shot .22 a while back. Spooky accuracy for a 2-inch barrel.

a plinker? I'd get a raven .22. or a saa revolver if I felt like some revolver action. or a tec-22. but you're thinking of spending hundreds of $$ on a real gun. what do you want out of it?

    how about a krinker plinker

I like the Walther P22. I've handled one a couple of times, but I've never fired it. If you get one, let me know how you like it.

For me, the Walther's slide release blisters the inside of my thumb when shooting for extended periods.

I've never shot the Walther, but I like the Sig's feel.

Nuthin' wrong with expanding your horizons and looking at the Rugers, too.

...Hard to go wrong with an older, good condition MKII Ruger with a heavy barrel...one of the best "point & shoot" feeling little 22's ever made...[;)]

    The Walther P22 I owned was a frustrating jam-o-matic.

It shot right to the sights and I realy wanted to like the little guy, but I rarely got through an entire magazine without a hang-up regardless of the ammo I was shooting.

Could have been the mags, but neither one that came with the pistol worked reliably.

I finaly sold the thing at a loss.

I have no experience with the SIG, but it does look cool!

get them both sell the one you don't like as much.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Only one I own mentioned, Walther P22.
Good reliable pistol if you use the recommended ammo, like CCI mini-mag.
Not the most accurate .22, it is light.
    Durable,very well made.
    Very fun to plink with.
Light to carry on the back 40, hardly notice it in my side.

    I have both.
If you have small to medium sized hands the p22 will probably feel better in your hand, with medium to large the sig will fill you grip better. I have large hands and even though the sig "feels" better I shoot the p22 better.
I have over 2,000 rounds through the sig now, in the beginning it only liked cci mini mags, but even those only 95% of the time, right now shoots cci's 100%, and federal auto match 99%.
The p22 also had some early teething problems, but now with over 4,000 rounds through it it has been 100% with both cci's and fed auto match. It is also the more accurate of the two.
I enjoy shooting the p22 more then the sig, I like the trigger and mag release on the p22 more then the sig also.
It is really important to keep these two really clean and lubed for them to function well.
I am thinking of getting a second p22 before I wear this one out [:D]

Both have a zinc alloy slide, just like their cousin the hi point.[8D]

Thanks for the opinions. I have a Ruger Mark III and don't care for it, that's why I was wondering about the Sig & Walther.

My opinion is to skip both of those plastic-zinc alloy "plinkers" designed to look like centerfire guns, and instead get yourself a purpose-built .22 for the same money.

Sig Mosquitoes are known for poor reliability and cycling issues.

Walther P22 is a little better, but the gun overall isn't that great of a package. Its pretty small, plasticky, and to me more like a toy that happens to shoot actual bullets than a real gun.

    Guns to think about:

    -Ruger .22 (any of them).
-.22 conversion for your 1911 or other centerfire pistol.
-Smith .22A. . .not awesome, but IMO better than either of the above two, plus more modular.
-High Standard .22 (if you want to step up to something MUCH better than the above).
