Damn crabs should be so lucky[:D]
Best with dill Havarti Cheese on hardtack or crisp rye.
Nana me to love Gravlox, Kalvsylta, lutefisk, Swedish Meatballs. Kaldomar, palt.
We had a Smorgasbord Christmas Eve every year.
My uncle just got remarried, and we have decided to do one at his reception this summer.
Squareheads eat good.
My grandfather used to feed it too me when I was a small kid (like 2-3 years old). He was real clever about it too. Instead of giving it to me to eat (of course I'd say "no"!), he'd eat it in front of me, and put a little piece on the side of his plate, knowing that I'd see him eating it, then want it.
So of course, I ate it, and starting that young now I love it!
Did take me a little bit to figure out that the "herring in wine sauce" is just a fancy name for the old-school "picked herring" (the "wine sauce" is just vinegar!).
Which type? This one. Why? Because that's the only brand they have at the store where I live! Personally, I don't care for the sour-cream variant, though lots of people do like it [:p]
Us Svedes in Minniesoda live on dat and lutefisk.
No one "lives" on lutefisk! [}:)]
Does it taste like sardines or Kipper snacks? If So I might try them.I seen them in the store and thought to myself YUCK they look like mush.
No and no.
They do look like slimy mush, but the texture is actually much firmer than they look and a little bit chewy.
Its a little hard to describe the taste, but its a bit like firm sour lox (sour in a good way, not "rotten sour").
Incidentally, I must be lucky, because my S.O loves them even more than me! We even have a little inside joke about it. . .I say are you getting a PhD? = "pickled herring dinner"!
