.....without a cigarette.

Cold turkey.

I only have a craving once or twice a day and that goes away in a couple of minutes..

Overall, it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

I'm just wondering when the desire will go away....never?

I still want one, but my desire to live has overcome the need for my fix.

You've done well. After twenty three years I still get the urge from time to time.
When you get the urge, try to remember to take a deep breath. A lung filling breath. I remember not being able to fill my lungs without beginning to cough. That hasn't happened in a long time.
Twenty some years of Luckies. God, I really had to look cool at sixteen. NOT!
    Good luck!

You won't miss the coughing. You'll enjoy the pleasant smells and tastes you never knew existed. Hang in there. You're surely tougher than me and I did it.

When I quit 25+ years ago, the desire was still active for several months. It took about 6-8 months before I couldn't stand to be around any person that was smoking a cigarette or had smoked in the last hour. I had smoked a pipe for years before I quit, and that scent still smells good to me even today. But I have had absolutely zero interest in smoking again for at least 25 years.

I found out the hard way, that you can't quit smoking unless you REALLY want to. After you get to that point, it's not as hard as you thought it would be.

I think that when you get to the point that a smoker smells like a full septic tank with the lid open on a hot humid day with the wind gently blowing right in your face, you will have it conquered. And the rest of you that still smoke, you have no idea how bad you smell, and you won't believe me until you quit and regain your sense of smell that you have lost.

GOOD LUCK, YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO.[:)][:)]

congrats. my father(who quit ~30yrs ago) says that from time to time he still gets an urge.

whatever you do, please endeavor to not become a reformed antismoker. try to remember when you did smoke how annoying the twits who decided to quit and then crusade to ruin it for the rest of us were(are).

there is nothing more annoying in this world than an ex smoker who wont stop yammering on about it....

Keep with it. It is a great thing to be a smoking "quitter"!

Instead of burning money, and frying your lungs ... you can invest more into the things that you enjoy doing: travel, hunting, shooting, firearms, ammunition, etc.

Get to do what you enjoy and with a longer, healthier life. Hang in there ... be a successful quitter!

    Thanks, bubba.

Austin, if I can do it, you can do it. I smoked for 37-38 years.

Kev, there is nothing worse than a reformed anything. I am still around some people that smoke. They are considerate and I don't *.

    Thank you for your support!

    Good for you!
I never smoked but I quit chewing Skoal months ago.

Actually I am surprised how little I get the urge at this point.
All the rough spots in the front of my lip have disappeared, and I finally have quit chewing gum every waking hour![:)]

The 150 bucks or more that I am saving each month is nice as well.

    Yes, Sir!

    I figured 1 pack/day @ $8.10 (on post) = $243/mo to spend on more important stuff.

We haven't really taken a vacation in 5 or 6 years. Time off....sure, but no real vacation. I think the family is due one.

    I would tend to agree![:D]

Watch out for what happened to me at least a couple of times previously. I quit the stuff for as long as a year before, only to have something really stressful happen and go back to the habit again.

You tell yourself you will only do it for a few weeks or a couple months, but it doesn't work out that way for some reason.
Also it gets harder to convince yourself to quit each time you fail,.......at least it was that way for me.

    I believe you will succeed![;)]

    Really?

I've never heard that before. Is there a significance other than a general flushing of the body?

That is wonderful news....keep it up, you will feel so much better in just a few months...

You wont even know how much your lungs are improving until you do something that surprises the hell out of you..

I knew the day I could carry a 50 pound bag of feed across the lawn at work and not stop half way to catch my breath...

I picked the bag up and started walking and didnt stop until I hit the cattery, approx 100 yards away...I was so surprised and happy I started to cry...I knew then I would NEVER light another cigarette...

    Your body is thanking you...

You are going to enjoy not getting sick all the time. I had chronic bronchitis, sinus infections, ear infections, and year round colds. I finally caught a cold a couple of weeks ago and it only lasted for about a day and a half. That was the first "sickness" in almost 3 years of not smoking. Good luck and yes I sometimes go months without thinking about lighting up.

I quit 14 months ago and I still have the desire from time to time. But it's nowhere near as bad as it was the first couple months.

People tell me it does go away completely, eventually.
