The Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm standard and compact pistol.

They site failures to extract, a new pistol defective barrel, and barrels that fail.

A friend of mine is a lieutenant with the LASO. He told me that after further testing with other models of guns the failures "may" be attributed to ammo.

This is dated around April 2009. Written by a Sgt. McCauley.

It also indicates that the next academy graduating class (#377) is to be issued BERETTA 92FS.

I had the SAME problem with my s&w sigma. I know its not the same gun, but I would never buy a M&P no matter how much hype it got due to this type of failure

Alpine..... My Lt. buddy told me this today at the range. And your right, until they get it all worked out the recruits will be going with the old "standard" Beretta 92s.

Agreed. I bought a M&P 45. POS. * to field strip. Should have known better. Traded it for a Glock 21SF and lived happily ever after.

With the exception of the Models 41 and 52, Smith autos suck and blow IMHO

If anyone wants my opinion, all law enforcement and military should use the 5" Springfield XD-M .45 ACP.

I am old school with S&W auto pistols. Really love my M39 but this is my daily carry piece because I like the 15 round capacity. I hate stainless and the square trigger guard is an abomination in my eye but it was cheap to buy, rugged as a tank, low maintenance, utterly reliable and if lost or stolen I shed no tears over it. This is the one gun I own that is purely a tool.

I got one of the M&P compacts a couple months ago and love it. It feels good, shoots good, takes down the same way as a Glock and internally is basically the same as a Glock.........
