Korean war Veteran Jerry Metayer.I don't know what to do.I have hoisted down his flag at sundown and promised his wife that i'd run it back up at dawn.I'll be sending her up to 1/2 mast. His body will be sent from Palm Beach to Maine for burial.I have 6 civilian riflemen and myself going to a range tomorro to send him off. Is it ok to give this man a civilian salute ?
I know for a fact that he will be buried with full honors.

It's OK to honor your friend any way you like. He'll most likely
get military honors in Maine. You sound like a good friend and
secondly a good neighbor - that's good enough for me![:D]

    Sorry to hear it.

......I wouldn't be concerned about proper protocol. You do what a good friend feels like is best to honor him. It can be a 17 and a half gun salute, or a couple packs a firecrackers tossed in the street, or a beer drinkin', hell raisin' party....or a dignified church service. Do what feels best.

My father said "whatever the amount of rifelmen you have, upto seven, fire only three rounds".He's 83 yo. WWII, China Burma India campaine(sp) Army/Airforce. I know he's seen alot of his buddys off.
I just want to do it right.I'm not a Veteran ,but feel a need to send my buddy a final salute.
