Trouble w/ XP SP2?

Anybody else get their computer hijacked by automatic update?
This thing installed (while I was Browsing)WindowsXP Service Pack 2, and my laptop (high-zoot Dell)has been unable to connect to the web ever since.
I called Dell for support, they're sending me new replacement Resource, Driver & Utility CD's and want me to create a new partition so "we" can uninstall XP and reinstall.
Microsoft refuses to see the problem
My ISP referred me to Microsoft
Apparently, Norton Internet Security is fighting the ICF for superiority as resident virus slayer, my ISP doesn't recognize Norton, the new security center from sp2 doesn't know Norton is off, and as they all mosh inside my computer; I get to wait for the UPS guy to bring what is sure to be a large pain in the hard drive.
I've been fighting this "bug" for 6 days now, and spoke with almost every tech support guy on 4 continents. We've used the recovery console, re-booted innumerable times, opened in safe mode so often I feel insecure without it, and I'm telling you now: DO NOT LET XP SP2 into your system!
