Notice I typed catching instead of fishing [:D]. So I heard Monterey wharf had schools rolling through pretty thick. Got there about 22:00 and no one was catching much other than baby Boccachio and stray lizzard fish. There was this squid boat doing some net repairs so that bit of the dock was lit up.
So the first 3 hours we caught like a 1/4 of a 5 gallon bucket when the folks I brought were packing up to go home. Since most of the folks that were there already left, too. All of the sudden the sea was turning white with schools of squid. And for the next 3 hours we filled two 5 gallon buckets [:D].
I took home about 5 pounds or 1/4 of a bucket and the rest they took. I'll be damned if I'm going to clean that much of squid for pay [:D]. Most were close to 10" and thick fleshed.
I think I'll go and stir fry up a mess of tenticles in galic olive oil [:p]. I reckon it'll take a while popping the eyes and pulling the beak. I guess I better get to it if I wanna eat [:p][:p][:p].

Do they taste like octopus?
Milder and more tender if cooked right.

I like to clean them and grill them. Separate the body from the tentacle cluster. They are also great, fried in deep batter or cut up & placed in soup.
Only ones I Had .... I would Rather Chew On A innertube[:I]
Way over cooked,
Video how to clean them- it's easy as Chiefr said.

The squiggly bits are the best, but the rings beat no calamari
Do they taste like octopus?
Much better!
FrancF - Yeah the boat was there fixing their net so all the lights were on. When they left about 03:30 A.M. the dock lights were like night lights. Barely lit anything. But the squid were still hitting there but having 10 gallons we really didn't need to catch any more.
Sooeyman2035 - Kind of, they're pretty much texture and not much flavor other than what's on them.
woodshed87 - For that you'll have to get the dried stuff. Like jerky but if you got dentures they'll pop out of your mouth when you try to break a chunk off by pulling on them with your teeth [:D].
llama - Yeah the tenticles are the best how ever you prep them.
So the folks I took along are "supposed" to be making me some squid kimchee.
