wasp trap help

Is there a DIY trap for wasps? I find a lot of yellow jacket ones, but nothing for the big double jointed wasps that build the paper nests in the eves of my house. Thanks.

Isn't a part of DIY, finding it yourself, too?
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Well, if you can't take the initiative to find it yourself, what makes you think you can do the rest? [:D][:D]

This works great but only after the nest is built.

I prefer the wasp spray that instantly turns into foam. If the nest has an entrance hole, cover it with foam. When they try to exit thru the foam, they're toast very quickly. Do this after dark of course, when they are all inside. When the queen dies, the nest is done as the workers have nothing to do.

I did do a search and a bunch of the titles contained wasp, but apparently to a lot of people a yellow jacket and wasp must be the same thing. I came up empty handed. I seem to remember seeing something with water in the bottom of a mason jar with plastic over the top. Maybe it was water in a plastic bottle that just kept them away????

Go to domyownpestcontrol.com, buy talstar p (bifen-it is generic and slightly cheaper), and a good quality sprayer, the Chapin pro series work great. Lots of info on their site.

Recommend reading the label, and mixing 1oz per gallon of water. Spray under eve's, and anywhere wasps are a problem. They are much less prone to build on treated areas, and it will kill any that try. It's also great for general insect control.

Yep, that Bifen-IT is good stuff. You can re-search it on-line. I've been using it for about 10 years.

This has worked for me. Wait for night. Well after sundown. Get a large coffee can and scrape the nest off the eve. Have the can still on the eve and slide the lid on the can and fasten. Throw can into the freezer. The next day throw the nest and dead wasps away. Re use as needed. Keep in mind that different areas may give different results.

For the Wasps and Yellow Jackets I take one of my Large Bug zappers, Cut a few of the plastic grills out (Just to make a few larger openings) At Night I bait a cotton ball in between the U shaped UV Light, Small bacon strip works as well. Turn the bug zapper on.

    Then-
Place a 5 Gallon bucket underneath the trap with about 2" of water.

In the morning when it gets warm grab your coffee and watch the Carnage from a distance.[:D]

Yellow jackets are wasps, but the critical difference is what they feed the larvae. Both are eusocical, but paper wasps are looking for spiders or caterpillers in most cases and are not drawn to traps.

I am not a big fan of most chemical insecticides, because they are indiscriminate killers of invertebrates, the ones you don't want and the ones you do. I think the most useful focused product is wasp freeze. Night is a good time to hit them.

My dad would take a weed burner and light the nest on fire.[:D] No really, that's what he did.

I saw a neat fan whacker a while ago. Let me see if I can find it

Another one I like but it's for ground warfare.
