Sasha got her first one today and it lasted about 1 hour and then it was gone. That was the longest she has ever stayed in one spot awake. I was amazed at that.

She is 11 weeks old and weighs 27 pounds. I think she will be a pretty big dog.

Dumb Question why did you name her after one of Obama's daughters.

Do NOT give your dogs, pups especially, rawhide bones!!

Give her a Nylabone instead. Rawhid bones are bad for dogs, especially when they eat them quickly.

    yep.

Why is a rawhide bone bad for a dog? It seems like it would be good for a dog.

I am glad someone told me that because i was going to get her another one tomorrow. Thanks. I named her Sascha because someone on the forum said it was a good name and i liked it. I did not even think about Obama. Besides my dog is smarter.

Rawhide swells up in the stomach and intestines causing blockages resulting in surgery to remove...IF you catch the problem in time.

They not only interfere with digestion, but they can also cause intestinal blockages.

    Right....So, feed the pup plastic....

They can't chew them up. Have you ever seen one? Worse, have you ever stepped on one in the dark???

We just threw out our pup's Nylabone, she had eaten one end completely off of it. [:0] [:D]

Nylabone makes several different products. The original style nylabone are damn near impossible to tear apart. They make other bones of different plastic that are easy to tear apart.

My dog will shred one of the new school nylabone products in an afternoon, but had been working on an old school style bone for months with no progress.

With my newfoundland and bulldog we have never given rawhide to. To many bad storys. We have givin them pig ears and pig skin chews. for a rubber toy that will not be destroyed easy KONG makes the best.

Bully Stick. 12" of pure bull shlong. Lasts longer than pig ears and mo' better than raw hide. Nylabones, Greenies are all good just make sure you get the ones too big for her to swallow.

I reckon she's teething Kong is good. Also pig ears can give your pooch the squirts being so greasy.

When you're on the poop watch you'll see how the raw hide will speckle the poop like crayons. I'd do the poop check for the next two days to make sure everything goes back to normal.

Our 1 year old Lab destroyed a Nylabone in one evening. The only chew toy that has lasted is the Kong. You can fill it w/ a treat and the dog will spend hours trying to dig it out. For our dog, it's either the Kong or a real bone.

looked at a lot of entries on this ..decided to use the small rawhide bones for pooch...dogs and their ancestors and relatives have been chewing up animals for many years...few have had plastic or nylon...granted some stuff may swell when wet (Hmmm) but artificial material cannot be broken down by digestion. one brand is made out of corn starch...my worry is feeding anything that comes from (gasp) china

I used to give my Pit a raw (never cooked) "soup" bone as a treat every now and then. Evidently too often as she had a really rough time eliminating once. (Looked like all the crunched up bone had gathered in one area and glued itself together). So, even real uncooked bones are not all that good for a dog when given often. Our vet concurred.

Well why don't you ask your vet? My vet told us nylabones for puppies were fine, in fact, they make ones for puppies.

And one other thing. Nylabones are made out of nylon, so all the little pieces travel right on through with no problems.

    Again, ask your vet.

    Stay away from China stuff.

Cow knuckle bones (raw or smoked) are tough on their teeth and they may break teeth. Bones are for older dogs.
