Went to North Charleston Convention center this evening they had a program honoring the Korean war vets, must have been several hundred of them their from every branch. My mothers husband (not my father although he served during the Korean war also) was beaming as were so many of the others. Sadly during the program one of the vets was carried out on a gurney, we won't have these folks around much longer either. They spoke of the Korean conflict being the forgotten war and how long it took to get a memorial (which supposedly caused lawsuits over it's design) anyway it was a great service and a pleasure to see EVERYONE in the room salute or cover their heart during the national anthem.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

A Marine Infantryman in WWII. Returned home, got out for a while then joined the Army. 24 years of active service. Went from private to 1SG, then 2LT to Major. Was offered LTC, a Battalion and Vietnam, but turned it down because his wife was dying and he had 5 kids to raise.
WWII, Korea....That is more than one man's share IMO.
We had a good conversation. Thanks for the reminder.
