Last weekend a guy I've known for a while is working as a Contractor in Afghanistan took heavy shrapnel from a mortar along with several others. Several in proximity were wounded and killed. An ARMY medic had to clamp his femoral artery out in the field. He made it through surgery but is in critical condition. Once he is stable he's being shipped home. Doctors don't think he will have permanent damage.

He's been in the middle east for about 3.5 years. He did 15 months as an ARMY Scout Sniper, and this was his second tour as a Contractor. He's been to both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Personally I don't think the money is worth it. I could go over there as a trainer if I wanted too, but no thanks. I value my life more than a couple years salary stuffed into one nightmare of a year.

He's a good guy though, has a family he is looking out for long term. I suppose he felt it was the right thing. Hope he makes it out, and his crazy * stays home once he rocoups!!
