Stupid Cats

The hardest thing about having furbabies is losing them.
I was never a cat person, but I inherited Socks seven years ago. She was named Socks, not for her feet, but the fact she loved to play with bundled up socks as a kitten.
The last week I noticed something wrong with her. Her food bowl was on the washing machine and she couldn't jump up to it anymore. She was losing weight rapidly.
I made up special meals for her full of calories, proteins, and iron to no avail. She stumbled when she walked. She had taken to sleeping in the bathroom. This morning when I checked on her, she had soiled herself. I knew what I had to do.
She hadn't been out of the house in four years, so I bundled her up and we went outside. We went over and smelled the fir and eucalyptus tree. We smelled the ginger and the gardenia bushes. We sat down. She lifted her head up and looked around. She looked me straight in the eyes and said "Meow". She seldom ever talked so I don't know if it was a plea or just a goodbye.
The yard dogs all stood back and just quietly watched throughout this whole ordeal. I buried her under the fir tree since she had always liked to stick her nose right up on the green. Her pain and suffering is gone and soon mine will be too. Afterall, she was just a stupid cat.

You honored the life of a fellow traveler. Kudos! As to your loss, no words I can share will make your pain any less. She'll be there at Rainbow Bridge waiting for you.
When I had to put my last dog down, I kept telling myself "it's just a damn dog." It didn't work.
Stupid Cat (and dogs to boot)
Thanks everyone for the kind words. It helped. I thought I was going to have to take Mucinex to dry up my sinuses. I've gone through a half a roll of paper towels today.
They need us most on two days. First when they need a home, last when they need our help to leave pain behind.
You were there for Socks on those two days. I am sure the 'stupid cat' appreciated it. She will be at The Rainbow Bridge. Waiting...

It was her "Thanks"........for caring [;)] [:(]

I lost a good friend of my own this month so I know too well how you're feeling.
Stupid cats!
You loved her enough to do all you could for her, and in the end, you had the strength to do what she needed most.
You have my most sincere, heartfelt condolences.
profound grief and difficult to understand.
Sounds like Ol' Socks had a good run.
