I have finally broken down and started to count my ammo. I got a lot of ammo from my Dad plus i have a bunch. I am trying to see what i have and what i need.

I am thinking now how much ammo should i have for every gun?

I went to do an ammo inventory the other day. Found out it would be quicker to count it by the pound......[:I]

1000 per gun seems a nice round number. for most all, but there are exceptions
22 lr is on a different plain so what ever you can horde I mean need [:I]
I have a 458 win mag and a 45-70 so 1000 rounds is just a little excessive for them , not that many big game or elephants in Ohio [:D]
for the AK's and AR's with 30 , 40 round magazines and the larger drum mags you can run thru a 1000 rounds in a hurry , so
refer back to 22 lr [:D]guide

If the media would describe it as a munitions dump then you are probably halfway there.

My policy has always been the same for ammo as it is for guns.

You can have enough, but you can never have too much.

Impossible to have too much ammo ! Sadly the ammo was also in the barge that sank that was carrying my arsenal

When the civil war breaks out you'll need enough loaded ammo and reloading supplies for all of your guns to last a long time.

Used to be every week I'd look at what ammo was on sale and pick up an extra box of something. Over a number of years that added up. To the point that when moving it was multiple loads of the handtruck to get it all on the U-Haul.

These days I exercise more self control. Running around 1,000 to 2,000 rounds per caliber from .22 Short to .30-06. Except for .22LR at 10,000 to 12,000 rounds. I seem to still be addicted to use a little, buy a little more than the little I used.

.45ACP is my newest caliber. Only a few hundred of those at any one time. In theory I am planning to save up my Cabela's VISA points and get back into reloading ... maybe that's end of 2015 now, not sure. Up to about $340, I'd like to double that I think before using it up.

I was told once that there are two exceptions to the statement that you can never carry too much ammo into combat. If you are on fire or if you have to swim. [:D]

To the media a brick of .22LR is a munitions dump.
