I am looking at Nuvis for the car and there are about 23,000 different models. I just want a basic one, 5" screen, with turn by turn, upgradeable maps, lane assist and voice prompts.
Anyone have a Nuvi and can you recommend one? I see alot of refurbs at wally world's websight, makes me wonder if there are so many refurbs, they must be having warranty issues with them?

    I've got a 1490 that I am happy with.

But, look for a model with free lifetime map updates, & free traffic warnings. And, be prepared to buy a beanbag mount, as the suction cup mounts aren't worth schmidt.

Mind ame with both mounts. Bean bag works best for me. If you buy one of the older referbed unints you may needa memory card to upgrade. Had questions on my older one and they told me this. Memory on the older ones is not necessarily adequate for the newest upgrade.

I have the cheapest one I could get with lifetime maps. Whatever you get, get lifetime maps. If it says LM on the model number, you're good. get LMT (traffic) if you need it for your area. I don't need it around here.

Never had a warranty issue with mine, but I think I have had it only 2 years.

The 1490 seems like the best available.

I use the suction cup mount on mine. It only falls off maybe once a month. Probably less.

I have 2 nuvis I love both. I get mine when they reduce the price to $99 after thx giving. At that price no need to pay for map updates new device is cheaper

I have the 1450 LMT for two years now and it comes with a lifetime update and am very pleased with it.

Does your model show altitude as well?

    I have a Garmin Nuvi 2460LMT that I like.

Whichever one you get, it will be outdated before you get it out of the box and obsolete before you get it installed in your car, but if it makes you feel better, it will be about a dozen models newer than mine. [:D]
