The storm isn't even over yet....let me put on my shocked face [:0]

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/09/15/police-arrest-5-in-north-carolina-as-looters-begin-to-capitalize-on-florence-chaos.html

Police in North Carolina arrested five people Saturday night as looters began to break into stores while Tropical Storm Florence brought chaos to the region.

Wilmington Police confirmed the arrests on Twitter but did not immediately release the identities of the five individuals.

?Charges are pending and those details will be released as they become available,? police said.

Authorities said about 1:30 p.m. they became aware of looting taking place at the Dollar General on 5th and Dawson Streets but were initially asked by management ?not to intervene at this time.?

They later said on Twitter that they were working to identify the thieves and would "will charge them to the fullest extent of the law.?

In response to looting reports, the city of Wilmington extended its curfew for the affected area. A tweet spelled out the particulars:

"In response to looting in the area, an extended curfew is now in place for the block between 13th, 14th, Greenfield and Martin Streets. This curfew went into effect at 5 pm and will remain in effect until 6 am. The citywide curfew will run from 10 pm until 6 am."

The National Hurricane Center said on Saturday afternoon that ?catastrophic flooding? is expected in certain parts of the Carolinas as Florence remained stationary over the region. At least 11 deaths have been linked to Flo so far.

Those folks in the Carolinas are rookies with this hurricane stuff.

YOU LOOT - WE SHOOT is the standard sign around here as if a sign were needed. Even cops here take a dim view of looting (Unlike NOLA where even THEY loot).

need to shoot on sight but we know that will never happen even a arrest is unlikely and any jail time or fines are slim to none... and slim just left town
same with the management what the hell "just let have it" what kind of store manager is that ... oh never mind I already know .

Good video surveillance is difficult when power is down. Its sad when things go bad the worst come out in bad folks. Loot and shoot seems a little severe for dollar store items. Shoplifting is a misdemeanor not a crime.

And the brilliant authorities can't figure out why people don't evacuate during a crisis ???. Many are willing to die trying to protect their personal belongings.....come Hell or high water...me too [;)]. I say drop them like litter on the sidewalks of America [:(!], that's all they are.

Evacuation is great, wife and I had a blast, but I also realize there are people of little means who haven't got the resources to bail.

They may already be living pay day to pay day and have been sent home from a job for days without any income. No cash for extra gas, vehicle may not be capable of traveling long distance without repair issues and break downs, no money for hotel or extra food. Sure you could go stay at a shelter where they tell you to bring what you need for a few days but still many won't have that either.

One nice thing we found out the State Parks in Georgia were allowing people to "dry camp" without any reservations or site they could even sleep free in the parking lots.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Lived in NC for 4 years before the DEMOCRAT migration began. By the time I left, they won governorship and started to take over. Immediately there was a mass of tax increases. They went as low as to tax military retirement pay.

It is only a matter of time before they start their attack on Second Amendment rights. If more DEMOCRATs fill the state house and senate, I agree, they are doomed.

The same thing is happening in Virginia. I won't be able to retire fast enough and move further south.

Have to give the buzzards credit where it's due. They are great at spreading out and taking over local and state governments quite rapidly.

They're like a large segment of the northerners that move to Florida. They claim they want to get away from the cesspool cities they spent their lives in, but they bring all of the bad habits and behavior with them,.....pretty soon they have ruined a previously nice place, and turned it into a carbon copy of what they left.[xx(]

And THIS attitude is why people get away with stealing stuff. STEALING IS STEALING. I don't care if it is a nickel, or a million dollars.

You steal from me, you are liable to regret it.

Obviously you've never had anything ripped off, or worked hard to get your possessions. I have. And I intend to keep it.

In the article the store management asked that the Police not interfere[xx(]

I guess they are worried about loosing their customer base.

I would like to have seen a M113 with a Browning M2 mounted on it open fire on the whole bunch of them.

    You loot we shoot.

Looters should be shot on sight. When I was a kid is LA the Governor would come on the radio and say he had authorized the NG to shoot looters on sight..............The good old days.

My entire home town was evacuated earlier this week due to gas pipe line explosions - no looting in Andover & North Andover resulted.

Breaking into a store and stealing isn't just "shoplifting" and isn't a misdemeanor and the amount stolen may or may not influence the charge. Like it or not people understand consequences. They may ignore Stop signs or "Alarm May Sound" door signs, but everyone pays attention to the "Wet Paint" sign - because there are certain and immediate consequences. "You Loot, We Shoot" serves the same purpose.

i disagree, what dollar amount would justify shooting to you ?

looting is not even in the same category as shoplifting, but more equal to burglarizing

just because the first person breaks the door open does not mean those that follow in are any less guilty

I find looting quite a bit more reprehensible than shoplifting, and even your average not violent burglary.

Looters are buzzards that would do anything, to anyone,....regardless of the circumstances. They are hurting people, and businesses that have already been through something terrible, and are especially vulnerable.

Shooting them is fine with me.

Looting is not shoplifting, its burglary and a felony. The value of the items being stolen does not matter, looting is still a felony. By the way.... misdemeanors are crimes.

Arrested for shoplifting? Extended curfew? Store manager doesn't want the police? What in the world are we doing here? The mgr is telling the police not to do their job and they just say "OK". Shoot the MFs and that might be a deterrent to their thieving pals. Wait until they hid Dunkin Donut and see what happens.

I've often thought the looting possibility/probability is the reason many refuse to evacuate.

    [:(]

That is the first thing I thought of too. I would be very hesitant to leave my home and property when ordered to if the looters are going to get a pass for stealing what the storm did not take.

That is why "YOU LOOT WE SHOOT" should be the law of the land during and after storms until residents are allowed back in to their property.

The other side of the same coin is who would want to leave a place where the loot is sitting there for the taking and knowing all forms of law enforcement is stretched to the breaking point. FREE MONEY!
