I can't trust the History Channel

I already didn't trust the History Channel very much because of the differences in their claims and the way I learned history.

There is a program, 101 Gadgets That Changed the World, they show once in a while.

They told me the Polaroid Land camera was invented in 1972.

I know I took my wife's J-66 Polaroid Land camera to Antarctica in 1964. The camera already had some years on it then. Not likely I was taking pictures with it eight years before it was invented.

I reckon the victors re-written the history again. Or perhaps the patton didn't kick on until 1972?

The first commercially available model was the Polaroid Land Camera Model 95, which produced prints in about 1 minute, and was first sold to the public in November, 1948.

Since that show is probably written by people born long after 1970, perhaps they got their facts wrong and meant to say that the Polaroid 'Instant' camera (SX-70) was invented in 1972.

They might be amazed to learn that Polaroid made a 'Professional' B&W film (4x5 format) that allowed the photographer to view the 'instant' image and also had a negative to make prints with, all in one.

I haven't trusted the History channel's information for years. If they can't get what I know correct, how am I to believe anything else?

Land Cameras are instant cameras with self-developing film named after their inventor, Edwin Land, while working for Research Row in Boston, Massachusetts[1] and manufactured by Polaroid between the years of 1947 and 1983.[2] Though Polaroid continued producing instant cameras after 1983, the name 'Land' was dropped from the camera name since Edwin Land retired in 1982.[3] The first commercially available model was the Polaroid Land Camera Model 95,[4] which produced prints in about 1 minute,[5]and was first sold to the public in November, 1948.[6]

    From wiki.

I would say the History Channel is way off about 25 years off.

I still have one I got in 1972. That was the really fancy model with electronics that spit the pic out. I remember an Aunt of mine having a Polaroid in the 50s. Just B&W and you had to pull the film out, and rub a fixer on it. It was amazing but pics were not that good.

History channel does not do a real good job with their research. Some of the stuff I see there is really dumb. In this new world of information it's really lazy and incompetent to not try a little harder to get it straight. Like having actors playing Bonnie and Clyde holding Colt Pythons in a recreated scene. Dumb.

Because no one can understand about half of what they say..

    Chewt'm Junor chewt'm...

Add that joke of a show Mountain Men to the list.. If you have to be as ignorant as those fools they show to be a mountain man.. I will stick to my 3 acres of flat land.

James I think that they were referring to the One Step Land cameras that used the SX70 film that came out in 1972.

When it was released in 1972, the Polaroid SX-70 with its foldable SLR design was the world's first instant SLR. It was also the first camera to use Polaroid's then new integral instant film that contained all the chemical layers required to expose, develop, and fix the photo. This allowed the photo to be developed automatically in daylight without the need of a trip to the Fotomat.

Pretty slow on the draw are we James? "Hysteric Channel" might be a more appropriate name as most of the programming has next to nothing to do with history. That or a very biased view of past events and the same to be said about predicted events.

Look no further than Jan 1, 2000 or the supposed end of the world some say was predicted by the Inca calendar. Interesting that the "History" channel carried this stuff. More interesting that when it didn't happen there was nothing said.

Then the reality shows which are not reality. And any of us are surprised by this?

That's likely what it was, but if that's it they should have said so.

In the meantime I've found something else to * about. They are doing promos for a program named America's Secret Slang. I'm saying if it's secret it ain't slang.
