To be consistent, Limbaugh fans need to express support for Mayo Clinic resident, Representative Kennedy.
He can't help it if he is addicted to prescription pills, right?

Exactly what illness or accident made it reasonable for Kennedy to start taking pills?
What kind of pills was he taking and what was he taking them for?

I have not followed the two stories your referring to but it seems to me that Limbaugh got started on pills to alleviate intense pain and has never been accused of driving wile taking them.

I believe that Kennedy had no reason to start taking pills other than recreationally and has been caught driving wile taking them.

    Is there no difference?

...who cares if he, or Rush or/was addicted? When Kennedy's rights get trampled, as Rush's did, I will denounce that...but so far...he's(Kennedy) just getting by like his Dad...The Cape Cod Orca...preferential treatment, ...and selective memory...[;)]

...first day, "but, but, I KNOW I did NOT have a drink"! second day, "uh, I don't even remember getting out of bed"...ha ha, "chooses" what he is "sure" about, kick the bum out. Wonder how fuzzy his mind has been while "working" on legislature?...no wonder the Libs come up with such strange bills...[:D]

I'm sorry, but I apparently missed the news (and FWIW, I'm no fan of Rush).

What car accident did Rush get into while under the influence of drugs/booze?

Do I support Kennedy for getting treatment? Yep. Do I condemn him for getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk? You bet.

He's a slimeball, a much bigger slimeball than Rush is (unless again I'm missing some story where Rush was arrested for DUI).

To treat them the same the prosecutor will have to investigate Kennedy over the next two years, obtain Kennedy's medical records and leak them to the press, and then when he has no case he will make a deal that means nothing.

The Kennedy's have a habit of lying and addiction to booze and drugs. They have gotten away with homicide and lying to the public so may times it's disgusting. How the locals can vote for these worthless addicts is beyond me.

Did Limbaugh ever vote to raise your taxes, or spend your tax dollars on pork wile under the influence?

    Did Kennedy?

Kennedys' problem is that he confessed to a crime. District law provides that he can be charged with driving under the influence of prescription drugs, which carries a penalty of up to 90 days in jail and a $300 dollar fine for the first offence. He should have used the same lawyers his father had at Chappaquidick (Sp?).

Lets see if a States Attorney get a search warrant for Kennedy's medical records to se see if Kennedy actually had perscriptions for the drugs he claimed to have a problem with.

Kennedy got of because he is a Kennedy. Rush got investigated for three years because he lives in Florida (2000 election retribution).

Both need help. Rush supposedly got it.

OK, I'll defend Kennedy. He needs treatment not jail time.

But as others have noted there are some differences.

Limbaugh had back surgery and was prescribed pain pills to which he became addicted. When did Kennedy start taking the pills and why? If it was like Rush and he started during medical treatment then fine. But if he wasn't prescribed them for a legitimate ailment then he's just another druggie in my book.

Rush did not endanger others by driving while impaired (as far as we know). Rush was drugged up in private, Kennedy went out in public.

As far as treatment, Rush was hounded by a politically motivated prosecutor who just wanted to make a name for himself. Kennedy was handled with kid gloves and escorted home without being cited, charged, searched, or given a breath/blood test.

Lastly, Rush is a commentator and entertainer. If he's messed up at work it doesn't hurt anyone but himself. Kennedy on the other hand has violated the trust of the idiots.... er, voters... who elected him. I expect the people making intrusions and infringements into our lives... er, laws... to be sober.

So....am I the only one who thinks it would be appropriate for senator pill-head to resign? In shame? With a big old heartfelt snivelling "I'm SO SO SO sorry?
I think it's pretty sick when the government gets all worked up and involved with steroids and baseball, but refuses to act when it comes to one of thier own having an addiction to substances (pills, alcohol, whatever)and subsequently endangering the lives of everybody on the road.
Not to mention VOTING ON THE NATION's MOST SENSITIVE AND CRITICAL ISSUES ... while on DOPE???!!??[V][V]
He should be drummed out of office by the people that wasted thier votes on him. Worthless slimebag....haul him back to Rhode Island and put him in the stocks. He's an embarassment to the whole country.

    Sorry, too much coffee already!

Kennedy was caught taking illegal pills while in high school. That fact was in the K.C. Star newspaper this AM. A newspaper by the way that is a Kennedy supporter.

How would you feel if he had killed someone in the car accident? A lot of people think that drunk driving is a small offense that everyone has done, but no one who has lost a relative to a drunk driver will agree with you. Being hooked on pain meds is something that has happened to alot of different people, but Pat was on pain meds, he was on sleeping pills.

Go to the Monk E Mail site and you can pick the beach scene and a telephone -- I had Pat Kennedy call my parents and tell them he's in rehab in Club Med... errr... the Mayo Clinic and to please send money to support Hillary in 2008.

Can't wait to see the response.

hissinggoose- yes, I think any member of Congress who gets into this sort of trouble and admits to a drug addiction should resign his seat.

Mooseyard- I can't deal with "ifs" only reality. He was caught driving impaired and should have been arrested but he wasn't on the orders of a supervising cop at the scene who has been "reassigned" whatever that means. Too late to charge him now as there would be no evidence to produce in court.

Is "ditto head" how his fans refer to themselves or is this some derogatory term ginned-up by hand-wringing liberals?
  • AlpineAlpine Member Posts: 15,092 ✭✭✭✭

People will call Rush's program and say the they like what he says and agree with his view of conservative politics. So to save time he asked that the callers just say "Ditto to what the last caller said" about the show and Rush. So it got shortened to the caller saying "Ditto". And even his fans claim they are "Ditto Heads".

To Rush's fans it is not derogatory.

Of course he got preferential treatment. Not because he is a Kennedy, but because he is a congressman, and being rich doesn't hurt. In Massachusetts he would have received preferential treatment for being a Kennedy, but this was DC where any congressman can expect the same preferential treatment. I dislike the Kennedy Clan as much as anybody, but the fact is the preferential treatment for politicians in DC is across the board. Any time or effort spent trying to prove the obvious is simply a waste of time and effort. The Watch Supervisor was in a no win situation. He could have treated Mister Kennedy like any other person operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs and ended his own career. On the other hand, he could treat him like Congressman Kennedy, be accused of preferential treatment, and end his own career. I don't like preferential treatment but it's just one of those little facts of life we might as well get used to. It's nothing new and it ain't gonna change.
