Puppy Boot Camp progress report

Champ (named by my wife) is three and a half months old now. Her progress is nothing out of the ordinary, but I'm kinda proud of her. There are certain basics I figure a puppy/dog has to know to be a well mannered dog, so that's why I call it "puppy boot camp". She has the "come", "sit" and "down" commands down pretty good. She is having a little trouble with "stay" and we haven't started working on "heel" yet. She obeys the "leave it" command unless it's something she's really, really interested in. She doesn't completely have the hang of the "House Broke" thing yet. One day she knows, and the next she thinks the hall is there for her convenience. All things considered, I think she's shaping up to be a pretty good dog.

She's an Australian Shepherd, but I suspect there is a little gremlin in the mix. [:D]

That's a real nice little dog. Try the "crate" training for housebreaking. It worked for my son's dog. he was housebroken in about a week.

I second the crate training. I still use the crate for my springer while Im away. It works really well.

I did the crate training with the last two Labs I had. Worked well, I think because Labs are real dogs. This cute little devil acts like an animal. When we picked her up, I put her in the crate for the ride home. We made it half a mile. She sounded like she was being tortured and didn't know the right answers. The wife said she couldn't stand that, so she made the six hundred mile trip in the wife's lap. First night at home she spent about and hour and a half in the crate, and didn't let up for an instant the whole time. You wouldn't believe the lungs on this little girl. That's the last time she has been in the cage. If it were just her and me, I could leave her in the cage until she gets tired of screaming. The wife is just too soft hearted (or headed).
