I was perusing another popular firearms-related discussion forum this morning and there was a bit of a dust-up going on over a couple of new members. Several people joined and in their first 1 or 2 posts began citing the tired and discredited anti-gun statistics from the Brady Bunch about the number of children killed with guns, how a gun is more likely to kill homeowners than protect them, etc etc.

It's pretty obvious that these folks work for some anti-Second Amendment group (or at least support similar ideals) and are looking to spread the lies and distortions used to attack lawful gun ownership. I don't know if this is some orchestrated campaign or the actions of a few misguided individuals but it's possible that one or more of them will show up here on Gun Broker.

If that happens, please remmeber that we must all be on our best behavior. Even anti-gun people have the right to join the forum and post comments. We can politely disagree with them and offer facts to contrast with the nonsense they offer but we must be polite at all times. If the responses they get are of the wild-eyed yahoo variety you can just bet that those comments will wind up in some campaign literature to show what a bunch lunatic fringe types we gun owners really are. Please do not give them what they want, which is screaming and cursing in response to their provocotive posts.

I suggest we welcome them to the forum and encourage them to learn more about legitimate gun ownership and the real intent of the Second Amendment. We should offer to take them shooting and educate them about the safe and responsible use of firearms for sport, recreation and personal protection.

The more mature and civilized we act, the more childish and uncouth they will appear.

    Well put. I ran across one couple days ago. I politely told the guy I have my interest and ENJOY hunting, gun collecting and most of all shooting. If you like to pick up coke cans along the road and enjoy it , do it , and I won't tell you not to.

    If someone wants to know something about guns, or why I go hunting, I will be happy to tell them. i will not however be drawn into an argument where I am forced to defend my interest in firearms.

    I beat those folks on kerry.com on the 2nd Amendment with peaceful debates and statistics from the Federal Govt. against their made up statistics.

    Statistics show you are more likely to die at the bare hands of a human than a firearm.

    You can take away firearms and people's bare hands are still going to kill you.

    Then go on and post statistics from countries that banned firearm ownership showing that when firearms are banned from the citizens they are easy pickings for the criminals.

    Show crime rates from places that have Concealed Carry Permits and compare them to areas where that right was illegally revoked. You are safer in CCW areas of the country.

    JamesRK, years of experience watching the scab pickers here attack trolls. Hairy reels the suckers that can't leave his posts alone in by the boatload almost every day. His 20,000 posts alone have probably netted another half million attacking him and his posts. Possibly the greatest internet fisherman of all time.
