Stripping M-1 rifle wood

Need to strip some M-1 rifle wood so I can refinish them. Something fairly safe that doesnt need much "neutralizing" after stripping.
Also, some "bake on paint" or something to refinish the gas cylinder and
its lock which are stainless steel and wont take reblueing. Something that matches the parkerizing on the rest of the hardware. The Brownells
Chestnut Ridge Military stock stain seem to work well for matching the M-1 wood with coats of Birchwood Casey stock wax. Any other suggestions? Many thanks guys. Also any good ideas on seaming out some
dings and dents on one of them? A couple of dents are a bit deep.
