Tehachapi to Tonopah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made,
Driven the back roads, so I wouldn't get weighed...

    Tehachapi to Tonopah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads, so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me weed, whites, and wine
    And show me a sign
    I'll be willin'

Thank you Lowell George. Great song about truck driving.
I just dodged the scale in Texas the other day, on I 35 at mm 119. Hooked a load that was 540 heavy on the drive wheels. I didn't load it heavy, and I didn't drive it from North Carolina to Duson, Louisiana.
It was just my job to get it from Duson to Laredo Texas.
Just had to detour through Bigfoot Texas and I was on my way. The freight has got to be delivered.

Boys, this is my swan song. I am in Columbus Texas tonight, go to Laredo tomorrow. Then, it is back to South Carolina and I will clear out my truck and be done.
Got to take six months off to build an addition onto my log house.

I really like driving the Big Rig and will hate to leave the job. I am 64 years old and not getting any younger, got arthritis in the left hip that is not getting any better.
Gotta build this log house while I still can.
Hopefully, all will go well with the construction, and by October will be back in the Big Rig. Willin'

Have you ever been to Tonopah? The Scolari's market in town has had the same, lonely toothbrush hanging on the rack for 20 years now![:D]

Ahh, but have you been from Lizard Lick to Toad Suck and then down to Frog Level?
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I lived there for 4 months once, but that was way back before they hung the tooth brush.

No, I am afraid not. This song was written back in the seventies, and there was no test for pot and probably none for meth.
And back then they were all on paper logs, guys would take speed [whites] and use 2 or 3 log books and drive for 48 hours straight.
    Made a lot of money.

There are dozens of country songs where the guy says things like "I take them little white pills and my eyes are open wide....Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight."

Pot and speed were commonly used back in the seventies but we are in a new age, speed would do me no good because I am on a computer log and can't drive more than 11 hours a day, then must take a 10 hour break.
And, in two hours I have to go in for a drug test and they are certainly looking for weed and whites. If you get busted your driving career is over.

There used to be a great live Lowell George version of this song on youtube, I watched it many times. I wanted to post that version, but it is gone, I had to settle for Linda but she does a pretty good job.

If you have a song on youtube that you like you better enjoy it while it lasts. There are dozens of live performances that I used to enjoy on youtube that are now gone, some copyright problem or something.
There was a fantastic version of Bryn Terfel and Tom Jones singing "Green Green Grass of Home." I am Welsh, like they are. I watched that three dozen times at least, over 2 years. Looked for it one day, gone.
That was 2 years ago and it is still gone.
