East St. Louis police have identified a young woman who was found early Sunday shot to death in the road.

Nyosha Lache White, 19, of Sparta was the young woman with tattoos who early Sunday became the city's eighth homicide of the year, East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore said. A passerby came across the body in the road in the 1300 block of North 39th Street and called police at 12:44 a.m. Sunday.

The woman did not have any identification on her, but Floore said her distinctive tattoos helped police identify her late Sunday night. Her mother saw the descriptions and called police.

Floore said the word "Princess" was tattooed on the back of White's neck. A skull and the words "Skull and Bone" were on the back of her left ankle. The words "love" and "pain" were tattooed across the front of her chest just above her breasts. The number "4" was tattooed on the back side of her right hand. "NeNe" was tattooed across the top of her right foot.

St. Clair County court records included only a speeding ticket for White.

Floore said White was shot in the back of the head. He said there are no suspects at present.

Anyone with any information to help police is urged to call East St. Louis police at 670-6139 or Illinois State Police at 975-8382.
