    Just wondering...

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a
'vanilla' Iowa, because that's the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of
    cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

How long have you carried and have you ever had to un-holster your pistol?

I've concealed carried for over 20 years and have never found myself in a situation where I thought I needed to use lethal force.

    How about you?

    Matt,

    All good questions.

You know, when you compare this disaster with others, there are striking differences.

In addition to the NG troops and public safety personnel operating in the area, the citizens of the community came out in force, voluntarily I might add. They did not sit on their * with their hands out waiting for the government. Instead, they chose individualism and self-sufficiency. They chose to be pro-active. They worked to not only save their property, but their neighbors' property as well. As you mentioned, I heard nothing of looting/robbery/rape/murder.

It proves that when a group of decent, dedicated individuals are left to themselves to confront a problem, they:

    1) Will work together to find a solution
    2) Are quite capable of policing themselves
    3) Are not only concerned about themselves, but their fellow citizens as well, and will exhaust all efforts to ensure their welfare

These good folks do not have the "victim" mindset. I have yet to see any of them on t.v. complaining and asking, "where's the government, and when are they going to give me some money?"

Yet another example of how individualism works.
