Just bought a Bottle of 1792.
Have had three shots this evening went back for # 4 and started reading the back of the Bottle .
It said
"This bold Bourbon boasts an incredible deep and smoky taste superbly balanced with sweet vanilla and notes of Carmel."

For an $18 bottle of Bourbon I got more than I knew was there.

The wine sniffters are going to wake us ol farts up to Bourbon. What the heck are they talking about Smoky, Sweet vanilla & notes of carmel?

Bourbon is the new hipster "thing". Friend of mine has collected bourbon for years, and he is livid at how much the prices are going up because of these morons. [:)]

This is no different than what took place almost a century ago with what is called Beaujolais nouveau. This is a Gamay wine released at the end of the picking season and rushed to market for the snobs to enjoy. The explanation is fascinating but it is simply a result of creative marketing. Now the bottling is sold out worldwide long before the product gets to market.

Single malt scotch has undergone the same revitalization with the same resultant escalation in prices. Single cask, limited cask, short runs, small batch, call it what you will it is just another technique used to sell a product at substantially higher prices.

Don't think that the beer drinkers have been left out either. Microbrews, vintage beer, nostalgia beer, limited release dates all contribute to the escalation pricing used in this marketing technique. Who among you would have ever thought that a purveyor could charge $8 - $9 per six pack of Schlitz!? Jeez...

    Now it's bourbons turn.

quote:Friend of mine has collected bourbon for years, and he is lividat how much the prices are going up because of these morons.

He is livid because he is paying upfront instead of charging for or boasting later for what he decides to 'collect'. His profit and pleasure are going to be minimized because of the upfront cost. Another collector foiled because of the increased notoriety of a product. Maybe he needs to find the 'next big hit' and start his collection now.

    Best.
