Is it me or do we noy need to show our president respect if we agree with him or not. You have to respect the rank if not the man. A big blot on the entire school as far as I am concerned.

Hopefully later in life these protesters will not have to depend on the government to save their skins or families.

Maybe I am making a big deal over nothing but it really pissxx me off to even see this reported on the news.

When I heard Obamas speech at the school I was very disappointed. It was a political speech and not appropriate for a graduation ceremony.
If a school is going to invite a poltical figure then they should speak about things not politics.
    Screw Obama !!

What most peoples issue with Obama speaking at the graduation is his stance on abortion. With Norte Dame being a catholic university, some people believe it is a slap in the face that is speaking at the school. I was raised catholic and personally I am against abortion being used as a form of birth control.

"President Obama used the controversy surrounding his Notre Dame address Sunday as a lesson on the need to bridge cultural divides in America, as he urged graduates to seek common ground on issues, like abortion, that stir passion on both sides."

It has nothing to do with a cultural divide. And everything to do with
respect for the sanctity of life. Most Insects treat there unborn with
    better care and worth.
Anyone that can sanction the barbaric act of ripping a unborn baby
from the womb deserves neither respect or admiration.

Well, Notre Dame is free to invite whoever they want to speak and they take their chances with what he is going to say.

That being said, and while not a Catholic myself, ND being a Catholic university should be ashamed of themselves for inviting the single most pro-abortion national politician in America today to speak about anything.

I beleive the protest were as much against the leadership of the university as against the President. The leadership didn't honor the principles they teach. President Obama asking for discussions over abortion when the people (most of them anyway) he is asking it of, do not believe in abortion period. There is no compromise from that position so why should they ingage in discussion contrary to that. I believe he was wrong to make a political speech at this event. Considering the situation I beleive they had a moral responsibility to protest. As much to send a message to the university and Catholic leaders as well as just standing up for what they believe in. I am respectful of our elected leaders, but I will say President Obama is making it very hard for me to retain respect for him, even though he is president.

I am not Catholic, and I do not believe abortions should happen.

I'm glad they protested - I'm sick and tired of the "free speech zones" certain politicians felt were necessary to keep them safe.

How much respect did Obama give America when he went on his Eurpoe tour and "apolgized" for America electing George W. Bush?

Obama was a national embarassment when he did that stunt!

Obama calls for "understanding" in his ND speech.

He has show very little "understanding" for those of us who do not accept his socialist agenda but expect us to be understanding of him.

    hypocrite.

Obama acknowledged that "no matter how much we want to fudge it ... the fact is that at some level, the views of the two camps are irreconcilable." But he still implored the University of Notre Dame's graduating class and all in the U.S. to stop "reducing those with differing views to caricature. Open hearts. Open minds. Fair-minded words. It's a way of life that always has been the Notre Dame tradition."

    Call a spade a spade.

That is not the way he lives with his biased racist views.

54% of Catholics voted for Obama. Since the majority of Catholics voted for him, why shouldn't a Catholic school invite him to speak?

Landru's quote is idiotic at best. I love it when liberals suggest that we have to find "common ground." That's the exact same thing as saying, "My way or the highway."

Most people who are against abortion feel that way because they believe the innocent life growing inside the mother should be given a chance to live.

    Abortion destroys that life.

    How is compromise possible?

Let's look at it a different way. We are asked to find "common ground" on the 2nd Amendment. Either we have an inalienable right to keep and bear arms or we don't.

"Common ground" allows for some level of restrictions or bans on gun ownership.

Again, this is "my way or the highway" mentality, but they let you feel "good" about losing.

Respect that POS? Not on your life. Had I been there, I would have jeered until they ejected me. Any Catholic that does support him needs to renounce their religion and go to one of the easier Christian faiths. I wish the Pope would excommunicate any Catholic that voted for him.

It only takes on screw up in life to mess up everything one has obtained. As far as I am concerned Notre Dame accomplishments are null and void. What bothers me the most were all the graduates cheering for Obama. Good luck finding jobs Class of 2009

Personally, I believe a measured amount of respect is due and every time I see him on TV I give him a salute...

He's been in town at least 4 times in the last year. Nobody cared when he talked to the other groups. This is only about his stance on abortion.

I too think the protest was more against the leadership of the University than anything else. He is the last person that they should have invited to speak. It was quite a slap in the face to traditional Catholics.[:D]

But life goes on and more idiots were exposed in the ranks of Notre D.

Their is no such thing as a good catholic because if you are a Catholic you have a history of subversion, murder plain BS and a blind faith you are too afraid to question. How anyone can justify going to a Cathulic church is beyond my ability to comprehend.

Before you come back with your imature responses think about it and give a legitimate answer.

    So there is no such thing as a good;

Gun owner; gun owners have a history of murder, and criminal behavior

driver; car drivers have a history of reckless endangement, and risky behavior

Black; they have a history of displaying criminal behavior against people, inability to speak the english language, or act in a civilized manner

German; They have a history of war and violence along with genocide

White; they have a history of persecuting those of other races, and using them for their own personal gain

Message board; They have a history of bringing out the most ignorant side of people who can post from the safety of their home, unknown to the rest of the world

The protests were not about Obama speaking at Notre Dame. The protests were about Notre Dame honoring his stance on abortion by awarding him an honorary degree.
