I think there is an agenda to pursue a North American Union, not for political purposes but for economic purposes. If the European Union ever starts performing up to expectations it will make clear the ecomonic power of banding together on a regional level.

The EU remains an organization of seperate countries that are united for econmoic reasons. The vision of those who brought us NAFTA is similar, but not quite so ambitious.

If the US was part of such a NA union, American companies could exploit cheap labor in Mexico without having to bring cheap labor to the US, could exploit cheap land and natural resources in Canada without restrictions, tarrifs etc.

I'm sure there will be such a NA union within the next fifty years. That doesnt mean that there wont be independant countries, just that the barriers to economic exploitation will be removed on a large scale.

I think we should stay autonomos. Our soverignty is being stripped away for the "global good" as it is. We do not need any more laws and regs pushed on us by someone who lives 5,000 miles away. Which is what this would bring.
